We are entering the final weeks of the 2022-23 school year! Our students have been busy the last few weeks. Many students have competed in several track meets, worked hard to complete STAAR testing and various projects. Last week, our East Unified Track Team won the Gold medal at the district meet! Our East Parent Organization deserves a huge round of applause for spoiling the staff last week for Teacher Appreciation Week! They went above and beyond in providing meals and special treats!

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) redesign will be fully implemented in spring 2023 for all grades/subjects and courses. Since new question types have been added to STAAR assessments and the test blueprints have been updated, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) wants to ensure that the performance standards continue to accurately reflect what students know and can do through a standard-setting process. Due to these changes and the process required for standard setting, the reporting process will be a bit longer this summer. TEA has provided the following schedule of dates when families can expect preliminary and final assessment reports for EOC and STAAR exams to be posted in the Texas Assessment Portal. As these dates approach, we will send you information on how to view your child’s results through the Portal.

Our East Elementary Pirate Pantry serves our students in many capacities. Our Communities In School Representative, Mrs. Perez and Mrs. Francis, our counselor work together to ensure that many students' physical needs are met throughout the day. Daily snacks, weekend snack bags, holiday boxes, Angel Tree gifts and extra clothes are a few of the provisions.

We are excited to announce that East Elementary Pirate Pantry now has an Amazon List. This link will allow you to see the items needed to stock the pantry as well as a convenient way to help out. We are so thankful for the partnership that we share with our East Family!

Our Pirate Patrol has worked diligently to create a digital Lost & Found for East Elementary. Each day we accumulate jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes and a plethora of treasures. Please take a moment to look through the slides and see if any of these items belong to your child.

Books Beginning at Birth is a great program that will get books into the hands of kids! This is a statewide program that provides young children birth to age 4 and their families access to books and resources to support the development of early literacy skills and foster a love of reading. • Always bring your driver's license with you when you come to visit our campus. We will need to scan your ID in order to print your visitor badge upon arrival.

The LCISD cell phone procedure has been updated for students in all grade levels. Please see the document attached below for detailed information regarding this district-wide practice.

Federal funding for all students to receive free school meals is no longer available to school districts. This means that students must either pay for school meals or qualify for free or reduced-price school meals for the 2022-23 school year.

School meal prices for the 2022-23 school year are:

Breakfast $2.00

Grades PK -5 Lunch $3.00

Grades 6-12 Lunch $3.25

There is a possibility that your child may qualify for free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). To find out if the children in your household are eligible for free or reduced-price meals, simply complete the Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals online or paper form.

Here is some important information about applying for free and reduced-price meals:

• Any family can apply. There is no penalty for families who apply and do not qualify.

• Families who have not qualified in the past may qualify this year, as income eligibility qualifications have been adjusted.

• The application and free or reduced-price meal status are completely confidential. Teachers, administrators, and fellow students do not have access to this information and will have no way of knowing which children receive free and reduced-price meals.

• Children who receive free or reduced-price meals have the same food options as children who do not. There are no “special lunch lines” or different menu items for these students.

• Qualifying for free and reduced-price meals may provide access to many additional benefits, including:

  • Pandemic EBT benefits

  • Reduced registration fees for AP, SAT, and/or ACT tests

  • Free or discounted participation fees for activities

  • Discounted rates associated with college applications

  • Discounted rates on internet services

• If you have an existing account, select “Login”; if you do not have an existing account, select “Guest Login”

• Follow the prompts to complete the application process. (The application will ask for your child’s student ID number, but if you do not know your child’s student ID number, you will be able to look it up using your child’s full name and date of birth.)

If you prefer to complete a paper Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals:

• Paper applications are available at any LCISD campus office, the district’s main office, and during fall open houses.

• Return your paper application to any LCISD campus office or the district’s main office.
