Gold Stars!
- Carrie Forbes (Tanana Middle) - Carrie has been an awesome team leader! She makes sure that we understand what is going on and what is expected of us. Also, she goes out of her way to make learning exciting for our team of students. Go Ocean Team!
- Anita Simpson, David Powers, Sarah Wyatt (Pearl Creek Elementary) - Anita, David and Sarah are integral to the success of the students in the Extended Resource program. They go with the flow, and are happy to help wherever and whenever. They continually put students needs first. They ROCK!
- Laura Thurneau (Tanana Middle) - Laura is very nice and is always smiling. Any time that we need help, she is there! If she cannot help us, she ensure that someone will. She makes certain our ship is sailing is smooth waters. Thank you LAURA:)
- Joy Kennedy Grubis (West Valley High) - Ms. Grubis works hard everyday through Sources of Strength to help students find support in their experience. She presently has written grants, developed curricula and takes students to state-level conferences.
- Hess Poland (Tanana Middle) - Mr. Hess has a presence! He cares about our students and school. Students say that he is, "One of the nicest adults in the school". Thank you for being at Tanana:)

Hunter Elementary kindergarten teacher, Nicole Hingst, and pre-kindergarten teacher, Mercedes Anderson, used their prep time to visit all staff to deliver their thanks and a healthy snack!

Alaska Native Education
- Early-bird registration deadline for the AFN Elders & Youth Conference is Friday, Oct. 4. Scholarship deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 30.
Communications, Development & Engagement
- There will be an emergency communication test on Friday, Sept. 27. Please make sure your contact info is up to date in ESS!
- The presentation by Shannon Bingham on the research around a potential change of school start and end times, including impact, is available.
Grants & Partnerships
- $2,000 grants to support new/existing school gardens are being offered by the Whole Kids Foundation. Interested? Start with this pre-application.

Gold Stars (Continued)
- Krista Sager (Nordale Elementary) - Krista is always willing to help in any way while keeping a smile on her face. She is cheerful and welcomes students in the morning to help them have a great day!
- Cathleen Edwards (Teaching & Learning) - Cathleen is available to Library staff and works so incredibly hard to give her employees the best chance possible to show their own worth and the worth of Libraries.
- Dewayne Taylor (Transportation) - HE IS A ROCKSTAR!! He got us a bus in 15 minutes for a field trip mishap and he was so nice about it! Thank you for going above and beyond to help fix our mistake!
- Russel Brovold (Hunter Elementary) - Russel carefully observes what brings about excellent behavior and then molds his students so that their behavior is outstanding. He's always ready to help others who need computer tips or classroom management suggestions.
- Kristy Weaver (Ladd Elementary) - Kristy embeds social emotional learning in all she does, whether naming her counseling lessons "Life Skills", partnering with our MFLC for yellow-ribbon deployment send-offs, or supporting teachers, our BIA, or bus drivers.
- Carla Goldizen (Anne Wien Elementary) - Carla has been at Anne Wien since it opened in '95! Her love & commitment shows through her deep involvement in the PTSA, her endless energy and problem solving, and the "Welcome to Anne Wien" smiles, hugs, & help for all!
- Linda Gage (Tanana Middle) - Linda volunteered to join Team Tanana this year and she has been a "Northern Gold Star". Her quiet, welcoming, and supportive nature along with her expertise and leadership has helped mentor staff to find success!
- Courtney Havrilek (Lathrop High) - There is no combination of words that can be used to describe how absolutely positive, passionate and wonderful Courtney is! We are all truly lucky to have her here at Lathrop!
