

4th Grade September Update
Happenings in 4th Grade September 2023
Math!
This month we are continuing to learn place value involving decimals to the tenths and hundredths. We will be starting addition and subtraction of whole numbers to the millions.
Please practice multiplication facts at home.
Reading and Language Arts!
Reading:
This month we are working hard identifying the author's purpose in our reading. We will use a variety of reading sources including our library books.
Writing:
As we write this month, we will focus on writing personal narratives.
Word Study:
9/4: words with a VCV pattern such as event, humor, rapid, and music.
9/11: words with VCCV and VCV patterns such as dentist, final, finish, and narrow.
9/18: Multisyllabic words such as poster, secret, whether, and author.
9/25: Vowel words with short u with words such as bunch, fruit, and argue
Science and History!
Science:
In science this we are exploring why Matter matters! We will learn about the properties of matter as well as mixtures and solutions. Our new concepts and vocabulary include: solubility, density, solvent, and solute.
History:
This month in Texas history we are learning about the four regions of Texas. We will learn about the climate, vegetation, animal life, and economic activities of the Mountains and Basins, Great Plains, North Central Plains, and Coastal Plains. The week of September 11-15th, is Celebrate Freedom week. We will investigate the documents that have played a vital role in the foundation of the United States and the lives of citizens.
