November 19 is Partner Church Sunday
Partner Church History #2: The involvement of OUUC as a Partner Church began in 1995 when our congregation began a partnership ministry with the village of Kissolymos in the Transylvanian area of Romania. Many OUUC groups, including the choir, a youth group, and several adult groups. have enjoyed the opportunity of being home-hosted by villagers in this this small rural community, and the generosity and kindness of the people of KIssolymos. Over the years of our partnership, your generous offerings on Partner Church Sunday have provided financial assistance for a number of needed projects in Kissolymos. We have provided funding to help pay the taxes for the church’s woods, new tiles for the church roof, the outfitting of a small weekly clinic, purchases of a digital camera, a vehicle used as an ambulance, digital TV. for the local school, a motorized wheelchair for a disabled recipient, and assistance with the 5 year restoration of their 300 year-old church, which included installation of a much-needed heating system and renovation of the beautiful and very old organ. Much of this work was done under the direction of the current settled minister Levente Lörenczi. Some of you may remember Levente and his wife, Orsi, who visited OUUC in February of 2019. - Rhys Dovey
Packs of Cheer!
Turtle of the Community Kitchen has a dream. She works daily to warm bellies with the food she cooks at the Kitchen, and she wants to fill 300 back packs with items that will help warm bodies as the weather gets colder and wetter. Can you help her with donations of gently used backpacks, warm hats, scarves, socks, bath towels, hand-warmers, new toothbrushes, soaps, razors, candy, and cocoa. A team of OUUC members volunteer at the Community Kitchen every Monday morning. We'll put a box in the Commons to collect your donations and deliver them to the Kitchen. Deadline is December 1. Contact Diana Finch if you have questions.
More Book Box Storage Needed
Thank you to everyone who has offered book box storage space for OUUC’s community book sales. If you have a dry, cozy spot to store at least 12 boxes of books between sales, on an ongoing basis, please contact Susan Dodson at books.ouuc@gmail.com as soon as possible. All we need is space – Jerald and I will do all the delivery and lifting!
