A Message from the Principal
Dear Eccles Community,
Our theme this year is Joyful Engagement in Learning and Community. We are excitedly preparing for a joyful December with inspired learning and opportunities to be together as a community.
I’m so appreciative of our staff who continue to find ways to celebrate our students and our PTA who continue to support our ideas. We have great kids who take their responsibilities as students seriously and participate fully in our community.
Staff will be working hard planning instruction on Friday, December 2. No school for students. Thank you for your support arranging childcare. We know the challenges this presents and we are so appreciative of this time to collaborate.
Sincerely,
Kelly
Below are highlights and school updates for you to know…
Dates to Remember
Friday, December 2: NO SCHOOL (PD/Progress Day)
December 19-January 2: NO SCHOOL (Winter Break)
Tuesday, January 3: NO SCHOOL (Staff PD/Work Day)
Stay up-to-date with the Eccles calendar via our website or the Canby School District calendar page.
Holiday Drives
Thank you to everyone for supporting our holiday drives! The Beavers won in our friendly home-state competition, but we brought in over $530 total, and many many toys that will benefit the families in our community.
All of these efforts are in support of the Kiwanis Canby Community Food & Toy Drive, an event that has been serving Canby families for more than 60 years.
Inclement Weather
As the temperatures get colder, it’s time to start preparing for winter weather! If the weather is severe enough to cancel school, the first day of inclement weather will be a snow day for all! Any inclement weather day thereafter will be an online learning day. Elementary school families, this means you may see iPads come home with your students if questionable weather is forecasted.
In the event of an online learning day, Canby High School will begin at 8:40 a.m. and all other schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. Students should watch for Zoom links from their teachers. If students have trouble connecting or need help, they should reach out to their teacher. Canby School District strives to make the most of this valuable educational time, but please know that students will not be penalized if they are unable to connect.
To make sure you’re set to receive information about school delays, or closures, and online learning days, please subscribe to Canby School District on FlashAlert. Now is also a good time to update your text preferences online by listing your phone number.
For more information, please see our inclement weather page.
We want to help you get to know who we are. Each week we will highlight a couple of staff members. Enjoy getting to know a bit about us!
Meet Ms. Reyes-Illg!
Ms. Reyes is one of our speech language pathologists. Her current state of mind is happy because of the progress her students are making in speech. Ms. Reyes has been working in education for 14 years and this is her second year at Eccles. Ms. Reyes loves her family and is so thankful to live near them. She moved to Oregon from Colorado to live closer to them. Ms. Reyes has two dogs, Waylon and Zuni, and an 18-year-old cat, Puchi. She loves Nancy Cook’s books and values honesty and compassion in her friends. Her hero is Temple Grandin for the way she sees the world and has helped farm animals. Her motto is, “Everything will be fine.” Say, “Hi!” the next time you see Ms. Reyes!
Meet Mrs. Farnsworth!
Mrs. Farnsworth is a member of our 2nd grade teaching team. You might hear her say, “Is that helpful or not helpful?” She has been working with students at Eccles for the past three years. Mrs. Farnsworth is married to her high school sweetheart and has three kids: Jethro, Leah, and Benny. Mrs. Farnsworth has a classroom pet, Toothless, who is a bearded dragon, two cats named Cody and Oreo, and two guinea pigs named Beef and Bear. Mrs. Farnsworth values kindness and a sense of humor in her friends and her mom is her hero. Mrs. Farnsworth’s motto is “Live the life you love, Love the life you live!” Say, “Hi!” the next time you see Mrs. Farnsworth.

Food Assistance
While this time of year is filled with excitement and wonder for children, it can be stressful for adults. More expenditures and higher costs can add to the strain. In the library we’ve been talking about how sometimes we are able to offer help to others and sometimes we are the ones to ask for help. If you find yourself needing food assistance, below are some resources available in Canby. Please view the organizations’ website or call for details.

Important Reminders
As we've fallen into grooves and the holiday crazies are upon us, we'd like to remind families to send students with water bottles and jackets each day. For health and sanitary reasons, the mouth spout of our drinking fountains have been turned off, but the water bottle filler is still on.
If your student is in need of assistance with these items, please don't hesitate to reach out to the office staff at (503) 263-7120 or eccles-office@canby.k12.or.us.
Health Reminders
As school begins and we are starting to enter the cold and flu season, please remember to review our district and school health 'stay home guidelines'. If you have any questions about whether a student should stay home, please don't hesitate to contact the office and we can put you in touch with our Health Assistant or District Nurse. We appreciate your help in keeping not only your student, but all other students, staff and families healthy this school year.
Meals at School
Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced-price meals, and we now offer expanded income guidelines to qualify more families. If you plan to have your child eat school-provided breakfast or lunch, please fill out a Meal Application online at https://www.ode.state.or.us/apps/frlapp - Our district ensures that our nutrition programs are easily accessible to all families.

Meals will always be provided to students, no matter their application status or meal plan balance.
