William Tennent Update
December 2023

From the Principal
Hello, William Tennent Families:
At William Tennent High School, we are well into the second quarter of the school year. Thank you to all of the families who visited with us for report card conferences before Thanksgiving. In our classrooms, students are hard at work with their teachers, learning new material and mastering essential skills for success in school and beyond. Second quarter progress reports will be available on December 11 and the second marking period will close on January 12. Please encourage your students to be on time for school and stay on top of their assignments over the next few weeks before the well deserved winter break!
Last month, we enjoyed our annual Powder Puff football game, (congratulations, seniors!) as well as our fall play. We were honored to hold our annual Veterans Day assembly and grateful to WTHS alumnus, Robert Miller, for sharing his story with us. Our fall sports season ended and our winter sports teams are now competing. Students are busy outside our classrooms engaging in clubs and extracurricular activities, and we are looking forward to our winter concert this month. Keystone retests will also take place in December, and we wish all of our students luck as they do their best on these assessments. Open House for MBIT will be held on December 6, and we encourage families who are considering career and technical education to visit and learn more about the programs MBIT offers. Finally, we will hold our annual Polar Panther Slip & Slide on Friday, December 22, to support our unified sports teams. Go, Panthers!
We encourage you to stay connected with us by visiting the WTHS webpage, following us on social media, and reading the messages sent through our eAlert system. Thank you, as always, for your support for William Tennent High School.
Take care and be well,
Dr. Henrich
Senior joins PA Army National Guard
Emily Borden, 12th Grade, officially joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard as an Intelligence Analyst. She will begin serving the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on a part time basis one weekend per month starting in the month of December where she will begin learning the traits that are required of a soldier. She will go to basic training next summer followed by her job training to learn how to be a 35F, Intelligence Analyst. After completion of her Advanced Individual Training (AIT) she will return home to continue her part time service while getting 100% of her college paid for so that she can continue to follow her dreams of working for the CIA or FBI. Emily is the first ever to begin this whole process with doing her Oath of Enlistment at her high school. Emily has helped the Pennsylvania Army National Guard by being able to break the norm of signing her contract and doing her Oath at the Military Entrance Processing Station at Fort Dix, New Jersey and instead doing it in the comfort of William Tennent High School; surrounded by friends and family.

Sports Medicine classes get an authentic experience
Recently, students from the 1st Aid Sports Medicine classes visited Immaculata University to learn about different careers in their sports medicine programs as well as hearing from students in the different programs. Students were also able to see the university as well as a few labs where they had an opportunity to participate in a lab.
In addition to visiting Immaculata University, students were able to hear from WTHS's own Athletic Trainer, Joslin Poole, about the requirements of an athletic trainer. Students also had the opportunity to visit the training room Joslin showed the students around her training room allowing them to see various types of equipment and allowing students (with her assistance) to feel what some of the rehab modalities felt like when getting treatment.
Advanced Media Production students learn from professional filmmakers
Students in Mrs. Dina McCaffery’s Advanced Media Production class and the BWTV crew participated in an exciting workshop with filmmakers during the Greenfield Film Festival workshops at Upper Dublin High School last month. Students had the opportunity to delve into the world of cinema and gain valuable insights from industry professionals. Throughout the workshop, students had the opportunity to learn about various aspects of filmmaking, from scriptwriting and directing to cinematography and editing to prop making and set design.
The workshop aims to prepare students to produce short films. By collaborating with filmmakers, students got a firsthand look at how to hone their creative skills and expand their knowledge of the art of storytelling through film. Beyond the technical aspects, this workshop also encouraged teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Looking forward to seeing what our student filmmakers produce using their newfound knowledge!

Donations to Uganda
In early October, Centennial School District and William Tennent High School made amazing contributions of WT Panther basketball jerseys, track jerseys, and other items to a school in Uganda, Africa, delivered by Sandi Biggins of Semanoff Ormsby Greenberg & Torchia, LLC. A simple gesture can change the lives of countless students globally and for that, we are beyond proud. More updates to come!
