Now that the weather is getting colder, we want to remind families that children should be dressing appropriately for the weather - jackets, hats, mittens, etc. We have also done some inventory in our Northeast Boutique and have determined that we are running low on winter outerwear. If anyone has gently used jackets they no longer need, we would love to take them off your hands as we are aware of several students who could benefit from a new warm jacket. Thank you ππ

HOUR OF CODE
Starting next week, Northeast will be participating in The Hour of Code. Previously, we have participated in Waltham Codes, a district-wide initiative to bring computer programming into every school. While not as widely advertised this year, some Waltham schools are running Hour of Code activities to help students learn to think like programmers. Whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more, breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered. As per the Hour of Code movement: The Hour of Code is a free introduction to computer science through fun activities and videos for learners of all skill levels. This year's celebration of both coding and AI is supported by over 400 partners, 20,000 educators, and 58,000 volunteers.
Ms. Serafin will be going to each class in the next two weeks to participate in an Hour of Code (plugged and unplugged activities) with students. To learn more about Hour of Code, you can visit www.code.org or www.waltham.codes. You can read more about the movement here https://hourofcode.com/us (Be sure to find Northeast Elementary on the map of students participating in Hour of Code!)
POWER WORDS AND CAFETERIA EXPECTATIONS
We had an All School Meeting the day before Thanksgiving. Our Fifth Grade Ambassadors, under the supervision of Mrs. Ferraro, Mrs. LaForest and Mrs. Platt, talked about being KIND and using "Power Words" such as: PLEASE, THANK YOU, YOU'RE WELCOME. They also discussed appropriate and respectful behavior in the school cafeteria and shared some posters they created to hang in the cafeteria as reminders. Our Fifth Grade Ambassadors are truly demonstrating their Leadership Skills and setting positive examples for our younger students ππ
