Crockett Cougar Chatter
December 2023
King's Kickstart
Dear Crockett Cougars,
I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits! As we close out a successful fall semester, I am so proud of all that our students have accomplished. I have observed students create beautiful poetry, engage in high quality research, and discuss at high levels topics meaningful to them. I am looking forward to supporting our basketball, wrestling, and soccer athletes, and watching our choir and band musicians at their upcoming winter concerts. I hope you all can join us at the Crockett Winter Showcase on December 14th from 5:30- 7PM. All future and current Crockett students and families are encouraged to explore courses and extracurricular opportunities as we plan for next school year.
Football Triumphs:
A round of applause is in order for our football team, who advanced to the area round of playoffs for the second time in school history! Your dedication, teamwork, and perseverance have truly made our school proud. Cameron Dickey also achieved the 4th most rushing yards in AISD history. Congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment!
Musical Mastery:
A standing ovation is in order for Matthew Chavez, who has earned 1st chair saxophone in the state for the second consecutive year. Matthew, your musical talent and commitment to excellence continue to shine, and we are fortunate to have such a skilled musician in our midst!
Congratulations to the six band students who participated in regional band auditions. A special mention goes to Haley Freund for advancing to the area level!
Dazzling Theatrical Performance:
Our theater department has once again demonstrated its incredible creativity and talent with an impressive production of "Little Shop of Horrors." The creative and technical skill of our students and staff shone brightly on stage, leaving our audience thoroughly entertained and amazed.
Looking Ahead:
We are in the last days of the fall semester, which will determine if students earn credit in courses they need towards graduation, as well as their grade point averages (GPA). Final exams are scheduled for December 15-20. These exams constitute 20% of the students' semester grades, making attendance and effort critical. We will have early release at 1:05 on these exam days.
During winter break, I hope that all families, students, and staff spend time doing what brings you joy as we recharge for an Always Victorious spring semester!
Warm regards,
Shana King
Principal, Crockett ECHS

(right after the CAC meeting at 5:30 pm)
New Crockett Staff Wellness Room
As you may remember, the Crockett PTSA got a "Healthy Minds" grant last year that paid for various events and resources to support the social, emotional, and mental health of families and students. We also budgeted part of the grant money to support our staff's well-being by creating a much-needed space on campus for relaxation and stress relief. There hasn't been a room on campus for that purpose, so the new Staff Wellness Room will provide a staff-only space that is dedicated to connecting, relaxing, destressing, recharging, and rejuvenating. We want our Crockett staff to be their best selves when they interact with students, and this is one small way that we can support them to make that happen. Monday was the "soft opening" of the new space and staff were invited to stop by to get a sweet treat donated by Mae's Mixup Bakery, do some yoga, add to the collective coloring pages on the wall, try out the chair massagers, and relax and visit with colleagues. There's still some more to be done and added to the space, but it's coming along well.
Please donate to the Wellness Room!
Want to donate something to the space? Please consider purchasing a staff requested item from our Crockett Staff Wellness Room Amazon Wish List. It will be delivered to the school and be put in the new space! Also, please consider writing an encouraging message for staff to read when they visit the Staff Wellness Room. Thank you for supporting this project for our wonderful Crockett staff!

Cougar Kudos!
The theatre students went to the Texas Thespian's Convention and Contest the week before Break. The theater teachers Hallee and Ferrier are very proud to announce that they had 6 National Qualifiers this year!
Congratulations to the following National Qualifiers -
Lex Hawbecker - Monologue
Jack Young - Monologue
Robin Irion - Solo Musical Performance
Noella Chipman - Solo Musical Performance
Nava Marsden - Costume Design
Cleo Miller - Costume Design
Our students will be competing in the virtual submissions in January so we are hopeful that we can add more qualifiers to that list for the Nationals competition in June.
Thank you for your continued support of our kiddos!
Congratulations to Matthew Chavez for winning first chair jazz alto saxophone in the entire state of Texas for the SECOND year in a row! Way to set a school record and make history! #aisdfinearts
Congratulations to our Cougar Band members who auditioned and earned chairs in the 5A Region 18 Symphonic Band & Wind Ensemble! These students audition against all the successful band programs in the central Texas area in their bud for a spot in an all-state band. Way to go!
