FAMILY FUN FRIDAYS
HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS
Winter in Maine..... is NOT a reason to stay inside! It is wonderful to see children and adults getting out to enjoy the weather, no matter if it is fresh snow, ice, or just cooler temperatures. Create a memory with your student and build a snow fort, a snow person, go skating together, or perhaps go for a hike on a local trail. All those activities cost nothing, but create times that will be treasured for years to come. The benefits of being outside and being active are multiple! Fresh air, increased heart rate, release of energy, but perhaps the most important is creating memories. Take pictures of your kids outside, let them know it is important to you, and you will be passing on valuable tools for them. Come up with some thoughts of what they can do outside, and try to share that time with them. If it's not possible, be sure to watch out a window and recognize what they are doing. Share with them over the next meal what you saw and how wonderful it was to be part of that activity. ~Roberta Sherwood, R.N. BN, M.Ed
SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
Students in Mrs. Pols' second grade have been studying how grass seeds grow for the past two weeks. Students wrapped seeds in damp paper towels and then covered them in nylons creating "Grass Heads." These were then placed under grow lights at different angles. Students then created hypotheses about which direction their grass hair would grow. After two weeks, the students were able to analyze how accurate their predictions were.
Our middle school is taking part in the 2023 Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey. This survey is sponsored by Maine Department of Health and Human Services and Maine Department of Education. The survey will ask about the health behaviors of 6th-8th grade students. Middle School Students will take the survey during their guidance or health class the week of January 23rd. Parents of MS students, please check your email for more information and call the office if you have any questions.
This is the place to get all your WCS-branded clothing and accessories.
