Fall Break
Monday, October 3rd, is Fall Break and there will be no school that day. School is in session the remainder of the week.
Math Support - Target Tutoring
Does your student need extra help with academics? We have advanced math students from West Ranch who come over on Wednesdays and offer free math tutoring from 3:00 to 4:00 in Mrs. McHorney's room, 604. Students from any math level are welcome to come and get support! We also have tutoring for all subjects, available on Mondays in room 201 and Thursdays in room 204.
CJSF - California Junior Scholastic Federation
CJSF is an Honor Society that recognizes students for their academic achievement and service to the community. Fall 2022 membership is now open to 8th graders only (7th graders will be able to apply in the Spring).
There are minimum grade requirements, based on Q3/Q4 grades from last year. For details on whether your student’s specific grades meet the standard, please see the formula in the application packet. Additionally, 10 hours of community service are required to qualify for membership, and those hours can be counted from April 2022 through the application deadline.
Click here for more information or to print the application.
8th Grade Speech Competition
Attention all 8th grade parents- the SCVBG (Santa Clarita Business Group) is holding their Speech Competition at Rancho Pico this year. Please encourage your students to write a speech with the potential to represent Rancho Pico at the final competition.
Please see the attached flyer with the speech prompt: What do you think is your strongest character trait and how will this trait assist you in reaching your personal goals?
Rancho Pico offers Speech and Debate Enrichment in room 615 on Mondays from 3:00 to 4:00 where West Ranch students support Rancho Pico students interested in improving their speech and debate skills.
Reverse Uno Card Trend
It came to our attention that students were carrying around Uno cards, specifically Reverse Uno Cards, in they student ID lanyards. When we looked up what it represented, we learned that it is to reverse an insult. We have asked students to not carry them and expect our students to be "mindful Mustangs" and not insult each other in the first place.
Student Store Open for DASH Tickets on Wednesdays
Students have been earning DASH tickets all year for:
Doing the Right Thing
Act Responsibly
Show Respect
Have Integrity
Students can cash their tickets in for small toys, a shout out on the marquee or instagram, Rancho Pico spirit wear, a Rancho Pico blanket, a yearbook, a Rancho Pico water bottle, a front of the line pass or a free school event ticket.
Lost ID and Lanyards
It is required that students wear IDs everyday to school. Replacement IDs and lanyards can be purchased in the ASB office for $3.00. Students without IDs will be required to replace them.
Library Activities
Our library is a welcoming place for students to read, play games and study. Our librarian, Mrs. Mccleary, is hosting a variety of activities in the upcoming weeks. This week student participating in book folding.
Attendance Matters
September is Attendence Awareness Month. Students who attend school regularly are able to learn more, have fewer discipline problems, develop better study habits and often are more successful than students who do not. Students who are sick, need to stay home. Students who are out on quarantine, due to COVID, can access their education through Short Term Independent Study. Please call our attendance office at extension 1103 if your student is sick and needs to miss school.
Think Ahead Thursdays
Rancho Pico students are opportunity Ready!
Students are encouraged to wear a college shirt or a shirt that represents a future career goal on Thursdays. It is great to see all of the college and industry shirts out on campus.
Fridays are Spirit Days and students are encouraged to wear Rancho Pico Spirit wear.
