Field Flash
September 9, 2022
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
We hope that you and your family have had a nice week! Our students enjoyed their first PTO pizza lunch on Tuesday; thank you to the many parent volunteers who helped serve lunch! If you are interested in connecting with PTO, our first meeting of the year is coming up next week!
A few reminders:
- Please no dogs at drop off or pick up! Thank you!
- Please be considerate of others when parking for arrival and dismissal. As you know, it's crowded on our streets, so parking properly helps more cars safely fit. Please also remember the curbs on Wisner and Elmore are "kiss and go". There is no unattended parking on Elmore after school - you must remain in your car.
- Please be sure you call the main office as early in the day as possible if your child is not taking the bus home.
- Smart watches and cell phones must remain off (or in "schooltime" mode) during the day. Students are not permitted to use their smart watches to text or call home - they should ask an adult to use the phone in the office.
- We know some parents may want to see their children at recess, but we ask that you refrain from parking along Elmore during the day to watch lunch recess or waiting at the sidewalk or fence to talk to students. This is for a safety of all our students.
As we start the year, I'd like to share a few resources that you may find helpful in supporting your children with the start of the school year.
- Elementary Parents Make a Difference newsletter
- How to Help your Child Make New Friends article
- Confidence Boosting lunchbox notes
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Goodman

School Safety Week
During the week of September 12th, our students will be practicing our emergency drills (fire, bus evacuation, tornado, and lockdown). Schools are required to practice these drills, and they will be conducted using age-appropriate language. For the bus evacuation practice, all students will load on to a parked school bus and practice safely exiting through the emergency exit in the back. For the fire drill, we will sound the fire alarm and practice exiting the school building. On the day of the drill, we let students know when to expect the alarm to sound, and help students who may be more sensitive to noise move quickly outside. For our tornado drill, classroom teachers will guide students into the hallway and have students practice the tornado protection position.
We will also practice a lockdown drill, to be observed by the police department. This drill addresses and evaluates the preparedness of school personnel and students for situations where there is an active threat or an active shooter within a school building.
Please be assured that the lockdown drill does not include any simulations that mimic an actual school shooting incident. The lockdown drill is announced in advance to all school personnel and students before it begins. This year’s lockdown drill will take place on Wednesday, September 14th. If you do not want your child to participate in the lockdown drill, please complete this Opt-out Request Form by Friday, September 9th. If your child is exempted from the drill, we will provide your child with alternate instruction related to an active threat or active shooter event.
