Monday, October 31st-Wear Purple, Orange., and Black
Did you know that reading aloud to your child is just as important as having them practice reading on their own? A huge part of becoming a successful reader is building background knowledge and vocabulary, so the more you expose your child to content that is beyond the level (s)he could read independently, the better equipped they will be for improving their reading comprehension skills. You can also stop to model your own thinking [(ie): I wonder why the character...]
Of course, students should continue to read books on their own, too, and if your child comes to a word (s)he doesn’t know, try not to give them the word right away; ask them to tap each sound and blend to read, or say each part and put them together. Then, they can reread the sentence to see if it made sense!
**SNACKS / WATER BOTTLES: Please send your child to school each day with a healthy snack (including short days on Wednesdays) and re-fillable water bottle. If it helps to remember, some students pack five snacks in their backpacks on Monday for the whole week!
HEIGHTS AND WEIGHTS (BMI): GRADES 1 & 4: Heights and weights with BMI calculations are part of the MA DPH mandated school screenings. Heights and weights will be done on all children in GRADES 1 & 4 next month. If you have a child in one of these grades and wish to have them opt out of this screening, please send in a letter to the school nurse by November 11, 2022. The results are not shared, only recorded in the child’s school health record.
FOURTH GRADE PHYSICAL EXAMS: I almost have them all! If you have a child in fourth grade and have not sent in an updated physical exam, please do so asap. You can send in a backpack, attach it to an email to me (jstiles@mpsd.org), or ask the pediatrician to fax the most recent physical to 781-834-5071. Thank you!!
Please reach out with any questions / concerns and have a great weekend!
