PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
Our winter conferences were a huge success, with close to 95% of families participating. We know that it can be tricky to re-arrange family schedules to fit in conferences, and we greatly appreciate your commitment to the family partnerships that are essential for student success. If you were unable to attend, or would like to follow up more with your child’s teacher, please reach out to them. The door is always open at Eagle Crest.
Continuing with the theme of family partnerships, we are thrilled to have volunteers back in our school building. We have trained almost 60 volunteers, and it is fun to see parents and family members working in the classrooms with our students. If you have not yet been trained, and you would like to volunteer, please read below for the next training dates. If you have completed the training, and would like to volunteer, please reach out to your classroom teacher to make a plan. We also have opportunities to volunteer across the building. Just let us know if you are interested!
I hope you have a wonderful long weekend!
Warmly,
Amanda

DEAN OF STUDENTS' MESSAGE
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
One of our values at Eagle Crest is to create learning opportunities for students that facilitate problem solving and teamwork. These essential leadership skills help students understand how they can contribute to building a better world. We have two excellent programs being led by Katy Schwirtz, our STEM/Leadership focus teacher at Eagle Crest, that I want to share with you.
The first program is Webot Robotics in 5th Grade. This program is in its second year of implementation and allows each 5th Grade classroom to spend nine weeks building a VEX IQ Robot. Students learn to analyze detailed directions and construct a working robot that drives and can manipulate objects with a claw. Students learn to persevere and communicate with their teammates through challenges as they build.
Additionally, as a part of our work in the Scratch Education Collaborative, we have begun to pilot Coding as Another Language with Ms. Phillips' first grade classroom. Throughout this program students are learning the foundations of coding and applying them in the ScratchJr app. This week they coded their ScratchJr cat to do the Hokey-Pokey dance as they learned about parameters, coordinate grids, and how different coding blocks can manipulate characters on the screen. Students had a lot of fun seeing their cats dance in the app! Going forward, our hope is to scale-up this program and offer it to an entire grade level next year.
We believe that these types of programs are essential to building equitable and rigorous programming for all students. We are excited to see these programs grow and the impact they will have on our students beyond their time at Eagle Crest.
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney
Dean of Students
Eagle Crest Elementary School

JOB OPPORTUNITY - CAMPUS SUPERVISOR POSITION
The safety of our school environments has always been a top priority in St. Vrain Valley Schools. As the district continues to invest in security upgrades, mental health resources, counselors, and other supports to ensure the well-being and success of our students, we are excited to share that a new Campus Supervisor position will be provided to all elementary schools in the district.
Currently at all middle and high schools in St. Vrain, Campus Supervisors promote safe and secure learning environments for students by providing an additional layer of facility monitoring, oversight, and communication regarding any potential risks or safety concerns. These roles also play an important part in fostering a positive building environment by building relationships with students and serving as another trusted adult in the building.
If you or someone you know is interested in applying for one of these 26 new positions, a job description and application can be accessed here: https://www.applitrack.com/stvrain/onlineapp/default.aspx?Category=Security.
LUNCH MENU & COLOR DAY SCHEDULE
Our Music, PE, and Art classes are on a 3 day rotation. Every school day is either a Red, Gold, or Purple day. These colors are shared on our school lunch menu to help families plan ahead for necessary supplies like sneakers for PE.
ADD MONEY TO YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL BREAKFAST & LUNCH ACCOUNT
MySchoolBucks is the website you want to access in order to add funds to your child’s account for purchasing breakfast, lunch, or milk at school. This system will send you reminders and can manage the account of multiple students. Money can also be sent to school by check or cash. Please label any checks or cash with the students first name, last name, and teacher.
If you haven’t yet, you can apply for Free & Reduced meals to see if your family qualifies for free meals. Applying for Free & Reduced lunch will help manage fees (like iPad Insurance or sports) and also helps our school receive additional funds and services. We encourage all families to complete the application.
