From the Principal's Desk
Happy November! It is the time of year when we begin to reflect on all of the blessings in our lives. I can honestly say I am so grateful to be at Salt Creek Primary School with our PK-1st grade students. We are so lucky to live and work in a community that puts our children first. Thank you for your continued partnership in your children's education. I am truly blessed to be a part of our Salt Creek family.
As our first 50 days of school have passed, any student that has missed 10% or more of the school year will be receiving a truancy letter in the mail. As I said in a previous newsletter, these letters are not meant to scare or worry, but to bring attention to the potential loss of learning that can occur with student absences. It is that time of year when sickness gets passed around and a day here and there can add up quickly without realizing how many absences have occurred. Our goal is to work together for the success of our students, so please if you need any assistance in getting your students to school on time, please reach out to me and we can problem solve together!
I am looking forward to seeing parents next week at parent teacher conferences. Please make sure you sign up through the sign up genius link that was sent by your child's classroom teacher. At the primary level we encourage you to attend without your child/siblings if possible. This gives teachers the chance to speak candidly about any concerns and supports without having to do so in front of your student. We know that is not always possible, so please plan to attend with students if necessary. Our teachers are excited to share all the growth that has been happening with their students!
I look forwrad to seeing many of you then.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Scanlan
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Please check your email from your child's classroom teacher to choose a date and time for Parent Teacher Conferences.
Conferences will be held:
November 7, 2023 - from 3:00 to 8:00 pm
November 9, 2023 - from 3:00 to 6:45 pm
Late Arrivals
Attention Parents - School doors open at 7:40 am. There is no staff supervision prior to this time. Classes start at 7:50 am.
Students who come in late find it harder to establish a good morning routine at school. Teachers are beginning instruction and a late student is missing out. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your students arrive to school on time!
Thanksgiving Meal Support
We at District 48 love supporting our Vikings. We understand that life has its ups and downs, especially during the holiday season. If your family is currently experiencing financial hardship, we want to help ease some of this stress by providing a holiday meal this Thanksgiving. Please let us know if you are interested in this support by completing our confidential survey. Your information will not be shared with anyone except for the school worker and principal so they can plan accordingly. We wish everyone a wonderful start to the holiday season.
Veteran's Day
As in years past, we will be honoring the Veterans of our Salt Creek Community. If you have a Veteran in your family that you would like to be added to our Veteran Honor Wall outside the school office in November, please fill out this FORM to submit their picture.
We are also looking for verterans who would be available to visit our school on Friday November 10th and read to our students! If you are a veteran who would like to visit Salt Creek and read to students, please complete the same form above and Mrs. Clusky will reach out to you on behalf of our Veteran's Day committee.
Thank you!
What's Happening at Salt Creek
Collaborative Artwork
Art Students are working collaboratively to beautify the school with a banner to be displayed outside. This is made possible with Mr. Denis Greco, OBT Alderman, and Mrs. Zastrow's assigned artwork for Pre-K thru 1st Grade students. In art class, the students created line designs on their hands using oil pastels and watercolor paint.
Please watch out for the banner on display in the upcoming weeks!
Fall Party Fun!
Here are a few pictures from our FTC Fall Parties
Animal Encounters!
A naturalist visited Kindergarten to show them examples of all types of animals!
Labeling Items

Please be sure to label your student's sweatshirts, coats, hats and gloves with their name. This is the best way to ensure a misplaced item gets back to you. We already have an abundance of items in the lost and found.

I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted a new emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
TECHNOLOGY FEE
You can make payment for your child's school fees through RevTrak by signing on to Skyward. If you do not see a tech fee in RevTrak please contact the school office your child will attend. Please see below for RevTrak payments. You can also come in and make payment by cash or check to any school in our district.
Thank you in advance.
A New Way to Pay Fees in Skyward
NO MORE E-PAY! We have rolled out a new way to pay for lunches, school fees and activity fees for students. You can sign up here https://saltcreek48.revtrak.net/. Or you can go to your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.

Communication For When Your Child Is Absent

It is helpful to contact your child's teacher in these matters as well, but it is very important to contact the office! If you have any doctor's notes, please send those to our health office staff.
