March 16th is Literacy Night
We are hosting a Literacy Night on Thursday, March 16th from 5:00-6:30 PM. The event will allow children and their families to travel around the school as part of our "We're Wild About Reading" experience. The evening is supported by our staff, P.A.L.S., and our local GISD as part of our shared commitment to provide our children with experiences and opportunities to grow in their love of reading! We recognize there are numerous events taking place this time of year in our district, so the time frame for our Literacy Night will hopefully allow families to enjoy other opportunities that may be occurring that evening.
Hearing and Vision Screenings
An additional date for 2nd grade hearing screenings has been scheduled for Monday, March 20th by our local health department. Hearing and vision screening is part of Michigan law and supports early detection of a possible concern to increase a child's success in school. If a concern is found, parents are contacted by a member of the health department. We are also sharing a copy of the hearing and vision grade level screening schedule to support community awareness. Please contact your child's teacher or the office with any questions.
Dress for the Weather
Freezing temperatures, snow, then sunny skies and 50 degree temperatures. It's looking like the weather is going to be all over the place in the coming week, so please make sure your child is prepared for the elements. Hats, gloves, warm coats, snow pants, and boots are all essential regardless of the changing weather patterns. It's always easier to have clothing you don't need for recess then it is to go outside wishing you had another layer of protection from the elements. If you are in need of winter gear, please contact the office. We do have some donated items on hand.
Popcorn Updates
Popcorn is for sale twice a month on Fridays and costs just a quarter a bag. Our wonderful parent volunteers make some of the best popcorn in Genesee County and the proceeds are donated back to a different classroom each week to help support classroom needs. Thank you everyone for your support and enjoy that delicious popcorn!
P.A.L.S. Spring Fundraiser
P.A.L.S. is partnering with Foertmeyer & Sons Greenhouse Company as part of a spring fundraiser at Hyatt. Foertmeyer and Sons has over 250,000 plants grown in their greenhouse each year, so freshness, quality, and variety are certainly a plus! The fundraiser will run from March 2nd through March 16th. The orders are delivered to Hyatt and will be ready for pickup at a date in May. Please look for more information to come home with your child. You may also visit their online store at www.fundraisieit.org or click on the QR code to register and order as well. The monies raised will support additional radios for staff communication and security at Hyatt. Thank you!
SOAR Expectations
We are continuing to SOAR at Hyatt as part of our district mission to support a positive culture in our schools! Our goal is to teach desirable behaviors that will serve our children well everywhere in our community and beyond! Throughout their day we focus on Staying Safe, Offering Kindness, Acting Responsibly, and showing Respect. The children are recognized individually with SOAR tickets and weekly through grade level drawings with donated prizes from our supportive P.A.L.S group, McDonalds, and Mancinos. This is a community commitment and something we are proud to support.
Volunteers
If you are interested in volunteering at the school, please contact your child’s teacher. We often are looking for an extra set of hands both in and out of the classroom. All volunteers are required to complete a background check before they can be approved to volunteer in the school. Please let us know if you are interested! Thank you!
