A Note From Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
Congratulations on an exceptional first week of school. It is inspiring to see students already rising to the occasion and meeting the high expectations. This positive start sets a strong foundation for a successful academic year. We certainly appreciate the support and cooperation of our families.
As reiterated during our school-wide meeting this morning, please be mindful to not park in the kiss and ride area during morning arrival or in the bus zone in front of the school, during dismissal. Additionally, teaching our students to value patience and kindness in challenging situations is essential. When faced with limited parking in front of the school, we can all set an example by remaining calm and demonstrating respect for each other. Together, we can create a harmonious environment, even when parking might seem scarce. This will certainly assist with keeping our students safe and for a smoother transition. For those not familiar with the neighborhood, there is typically parking available on P Street, on one of the side streets near the school, or even further down O Street.
Also, please be mindful that family supervised play begins at 8:00am. This means that any students on the playground prior to the start of school, must be monitored by a parent or guardian. This is a safety protocol. There are no staff members on duty at that time.
Back to School Night is September 7, 2023, at 5:30pm. Families may arrive as early as 5:00pm, to visit information tables set up by our Inner Core Teachers, Multilingual Education Team, Resource Teachers, Special Education Team, Student Support Team, community partners and other external community stakeholders. The whole school presentation will begin promptly at 5:30pm, in the gymnasium. Additional information can be found below.
As always, please feel free to email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov, with any school specific inquiries.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal
Hyde-Addison Elementary School

10th Annual Great Envelope Race
The 10th Annual Great Envelope Race is on! The Great Envelope Race is the PTA's biggest fundraiser of the year, with a goal of $50,000 and 100% participation by October 31, 2023. The suggested contribution is $400 per student. However, all donations are greatly appreciated. NEW this year - all donors at the suggested donation amount will receive a car magnet featuring our newly designed rainbow Hyde Hurricane with our five core values!
Here’s how it works: Pick up a blue envelope in the main office and return it to your teacher or the main office with whatever amount you choose enclosed. Or make your donation online, either one-time at www.hydegift.com or recurring at www.hydemonthlygift.com. We will track and report weekly on the funds raised and participation percentage through the end of the campaign. Also, to help us achieve our fundraising target this year, we are seeking at least 10 donors at the Gold level, or $1000 per student. Our Gold-level donors will receive complimentary tickets to all PTA events for the 2023-2024 school year (e.g. cocktail parties, gala, etc.).
