Around the School Spotlight

Sherwood High School Juniors and Seniors from Student Council & Leadership have been supporting our students this Spring through a mentoring program. Every couple of weeks this group connects with Hawks View students to provide peer support through learning activities that are thoughtfully designed. We have appreciated their partnership this year! We look forward to the future of this program with the high school. It’s always a gift when our students can have positive role models at the high school level!

2022-2023 Family Feedback & Title I Survey

Below is a Family Feedback Survey for this school year. The survey is anonymous and will be open for 2 weeks. We would greatly appreciate your feedback. The survey asks you to reflect on aspects of the school as a whole and your child's specific experience in their grade level. We value this information and will use it to make improvements in our practices. Additionally, we'll celebrate what's going well and strive to continue that work. Thank you for your time and willingness to give feedback!

Tardies

We are seeing a high number of students arriving late to school. Tardies impact both students and staff and cause a disruption to the learning environment. Students arriving after 7:55am will be marked tardy. As part of our district attendance plan, we are working hard to minimize the number of absences and tardies. If your child would benefit from any sort of support in getting to school on time, please reach out to our counselor, Sydney Allred (shustler@sherwood.k12.or.us).

We understand that car line can back up in the mornings. There are several things that help make our car line run more efficiently: Having your student’s backpack and lunch ready to go, ensuring students can exit the car independently, and pulling all the way forward in the car line to allow the maximum number of cars to unload at once. When these things happen, we notice a dramatic difference in our line and our ability to get kids in the building quickly! Thank you for your help with this!

Field Day - June 9th

Students will enjoy fun activities with their class, including inflatable obstacle courses! Part of the day will be a picnic lunch. If you haven't already, be sure to make your picnic lunch choice and turn it in to the classroom teacher by May 26th. To save confusion, please fill out the form even if you are packing a lunch from home.

WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS! We couldn’t do this without our amazing volunteers! Contact Katie Kearn for more details and/or click on the sign up link below! Volunteers are encouraged to join us for lunch! All volunteers must have an approved background check, and shown proof of Covid vaccination to the office staff. If you would like an exception form for the Covid vaccination, please contact the office. Background checks and exception forms can take 7-10 to clear. Deadline to apply for a background check for the 22-23 school year is June 5, 2023.

Moving??

If you plan to move over the summer, have already made a move, or your student(s) will not be attending Hawks View this fall, please let the office know as soon as possible. As we are starting to think about class sizes for next fall, it’s very important that we know if your child(ren) will be attending school at Hawks View. Any end of year mailings, such as report cards, will be returned to the office if we do not have your correct address.

Hawks View Site Council

The Hawks View Site Council has open positions for the 23-24 school year and we hope you will consider joining the team! Site Council meetings are held four times a year from 2:30 - 3:30. The purpose of the team is to provide feedback around school improvement goals and learn more about operations and systems within our school. Additionally, it's an opportunity to hear about recent and upcoming events happening in our building. The positions are open to any interested parent/guardians who will work alongside staff and the principal. If you are interested, please complete this form by May 26th. Thank you!

Head Lice News

Hawks View has had confirmed cases of head lice in various classrooms. Please take the time to check the hair of your students and family members on a regular basis. Head lice is a community concern, as they can be transferred from hats and clothing in stores, seat backs at restaurants, theater chairs, seats in vehicles, and stuffed animals, just to name a few ways to be exposed to lice. Please notify the office if your child has lice, so we can take steps to prevent an outbreak. This information is kept confidential. Visit our district website (scroll down) for more information on lice, and links to resources. If you have questions, please call the nursing staff located in the SHARE Center at 503-825-5488, or the Hawks View office.

Animals on Campus

With the weather being nicer, we know that many of our families walk their dog to school to pick up their student(s). While we appreciate that our furry friends can get out for a walk, please ensure your pup is leashed and with you at all times. Our city does have a “leash law” that requires animals to be on a leash at all times when in public. In a practical sense, this is best practice whenever you mix hundreds of children with an animal. In a worst case scenario, owners who bring their pets to school should be aware that they run the risk of assuming any liability if an incident occurs between their pet and another person.

Our district does have a "no pets on campus" policy during the school day (7:30am-3:30pm). Given this, we would appreciate adults (with pets) waiting on the perimeter of our campus for their student(s) to help avoid any kind of worst case scenario. Thank you for your help with this!
