VIRTUAL LEARNING DAY FOR ALL

This is our 21st week of the 2020-2021 school year. It remains our goal to provide you with regular updates.

It is exciting to report that we have not had any new cases of COVID-19 or school-related quarantines since our return to school after the holiday break.

Our staff will have the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine with a clinic hosted by our partners St. Mary's Hospital and Saginaw County Health Department (Thursday/Saturday/Sunday this week).

Parents of children, who will be age five by December 1, 2020, are encouraged to register their child for Young Fives or Kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year. A formal registration night will not be held this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Dear Families,

Each year our teacher’s union reaches out to support the women and children of the Underground Railroad of Saginaw. The Underground Railroad is a safe haven that provides services for victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and human slavery.

Annually, the Underground Railroad of Saginaw provided many valuable services to our community, including:

• Providing 14,000 safe nights in a shelter for over 500 women and children

• A 24-hour helpline and emergency response program

• Childcare and housing assistance

• Court support

• Advocacy, therapy, and support groups

Each year, our school district collects items to donate to the women and children in need, including:

• full-size bottles of shampoo & conditioner

• deodorant

• hair ties, accessories, and products

• toothpaste and toothbrushes

• full-size lotions or body sprays

• soaps and body washes

• feminine hygiene items

• Other hygiene/self-care items...

We will be collecting items to donate from February 1st-15th. Items can be dropped off in the office or given to your child’s teacher. Thank you for your continuing support of our community and families in need.

Volunteers needed to help create our year of memories in our school's yearbook! If you are looking for a way to get involved and help support our school, please consider serving on our Yearbook Team. This team will collect pictures of our students, help build content and layout our yearbook capturing one of our most unique years ever! You will be supported by a team of parent volunteers with direct support from Lifetouch to create our school's yearbook. No experience is necessary - please consider volunteering. The 100th Day of School is coming! This day will be celebrated on February 3rd.

Hemlock and Ling Elementaries are proud to announce that this January, we will be participating in our SIXTH ANNUAL SCHOOL-WIDE MATH MONTH!

Math Month will kick off on Monday, January 11th! Each grade level will be practicing their math challenge all month long and grade level teams will be competing for the title of Hemlock’s Math MVPs! Throughout the month of January, students will be encouraged to practice their math skills at home and during their free time. Students will also be encouraged to recognize why math is important in all jobs and we will be sharing/displaying their findings to the rest of the school!

Pump up your child for Math Month and talk to them about why math is important in your everyday activities!

Fun activities/events this month to promote math:

• Thursday, Jan. 28th: Grade levels will decide on a grade-level color to wear!

Don't forget that we will continue to provide food service during remote learning days, between the hours of 11 AM-1 PM, passing out a daily breakfast and lunch at Hemlock Middle School door #29 for children age 19 and under and those with special needs up to age 26.
