The James Burd Family will work together to create a welcoming, inspiring, and engaging environment, where all learners take pride in reaching their full potential.
Message from Mr. Flohr
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday. We're excited to have everyone back in the building on January 3rd!
We would like to welcome Mr. Hopkins to James Burd on January 3rd. He will be our new Health and Physical Education teacher. I'm very excited to have him join our family. Mr. Hopkins has a passion for teaching and is natural around children. He will do an amazing job supporting our students and assisting them in learning how to be healthy.
We will be spending our first days back reviewing our PBIS lessons for expectations in the different spaces at JB. At the end of the month, we will be preparing for our middle of the year benchmark assessments in math and reading. I'm excited to see the growth our learners have made since the beginning of the year!
Our PTO has big plans coming up this year and we need your help to put it all together. Please come and join us on January 12th at 6:00pm in the JB Cafeteria to see how you can support our amazing PTO.
Yours in learning,
Mr. Flohr

January Food Service Information
I wanted to take a couple of minutes to remind everyone of what is available on the Food Service Page on the district website. You can find breakfast and lunch menus as well as information for Free & Reduced Meal Applications and Meal Payment information.
Starting this month, we will begin offering three lunch choices for our students. Please refer to the calendars below for those choices. Ms. Dawn created a video to help students understand how to navigate the lines.
In Case You Missed It...
Illness Reminder
If you or your child contract COVID, please utilize this tool to help determine when your child can safely return to school.
Any day that your child is absent, please make sure a note is submitted to the office on the date of their return. This note can be a note from your doctor or a note you provide.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the office with those questions.
Makeup Work Reminder
Shippensburg Area School District will be utilizing make-up work procedures that existed prior to the onset of COVID-19. If your student will be out for an extended absence due to illness (3 or more days), please contact your student's teacher(s) to determine the best method for your student to stay caught up with their coursework in each class. If your student will be out short-term (1-2 days), they will be able to make up their schoolwork when they return. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Flohr.
Student Spectator Reminder for Winter
This winter we will be implementing new student spectator guidelines for students middle school age and younger. These spectator guidelines reflect those already in place for varsity football games.
Students middle school age and younger must be accompanied by a paying adult in order to be admitted to any indoor athletic contests at the Middle School and/or High School. Students who are not accompanied by a paying adult who are middle school age or younger will not be permitted into the contest.
Thank you for your cooperation!
