Principal's Pen...
We are so proud of our wonderful students, they have started the year off extremely well! Following directions, listening to adults and demonstrating kindness to others are only a few of the behaviors that they are exhibiting daily! As a Leader In Me School, we continue to teach and encourage our students to be leaders using The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Kids as well as our PBIS Expectations:
Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Safe!

Dear Kindergarten Families
Welcome Kindergarten Families!
We are happy to have your child in class this year! We are excited to have your child experience all that kindergarten has to offer this year. The teachers this year are Mrs. Bianchi, Ms. Binert, and Mrs. Coleman. Kindergarten can be an adjustment for the first few weeks. We need to understand that it takes time for children to feel safe and comfortable in a new environment with people they do not know. Even if children have looked forward to school with anticipation, it is not strange if they change their minds temporarily and think that it is better to stay at home. As children get to know the names of their classmates and the routine of the day, they will lose their fear because the unknown becomes familiar. We are looking forward to an amazing year.
Mrs. Bianchi, Ms. Binert, and Mrs. Coleman
Hello First Grade Families
Welcome to First Grade!
We are so excited to start moving forward with learning this school year! We will be jumping into things right away! We will be focusing on getting to know each other, learning routines, and how to be leaders here at Rawsonville Elementary. The first 2 weeks of school we focused on the 7 Habits of Leader in Me. These are great life skills and can help your child find their own strengths as a leader and to prioritize school and important tasks. It will help us ease into the school curriculum as we settle into first grade.
We are asking that you spend about 15 minutes each night reading with your child. The more they read and listen to stories the better readers and thinkers they will become!
Lastly, remember we are here if you have any questions. We are partners working toward the success of your child in First Grade. Happy Back to School!
Your First Grade Teachers,
Mrs. Garden, Mrs. Mounsey, & Mrs. Stremer/ Ms. Dobbins
Greetings Second Grade Families
The Second Grade Team would like to welcome our students back to Camp Rawsonville!
This year's camping theme will help us get off to a strong start with team-building and engaging learning activities. We will be focusing on classroom routines and expectations, as we get to know each other, and create lasting friendships. These first couple of weeks will set the foundation for a year of tremendous social-emotional and academic growth. Getting homework and bedtime routines started will be very important, and will add to your child's success in school. Please check your Dojo daily for important reminders and updates. We are looking forward to working with our families to make this a great year!
Educationally yours,
The Second Grade Team

Hey there Third Grade Families
Welcome Back 3rd grade Families!
We are very excited for this 2022-2023 school year!
Third grade is a year of change and challenges and we request that parents stay involved in your student's learning by checking on their assignments by using Class DoJo to communicate with the teacher, and reading with your child, as they will be required to read outside of school to be successful. The third grade team will work hard with your child to challenge and support them so they will reach their potential.
Thank you to the families that have sent in supplies to our classrooms!
Our classrooms will have snack time, so send in a snack with your child and a water bottle every day.
If you would like to volunteer in a classroom, please fill out the volunteer form located in the office for approval.
Thank you for all you do at home for the success of your student in school!

Hello Fourth Grade Families
Welcome Back to School 4th Grade Tiger Families!
It is absolutely wonderful to have all of our learners in the building this year! The fourth grade team consist of Mrs. Ali (aali@vanburenschools.net), Ms. Dagenais (mdagenais@vanburenschools.net), and Mrs. Gyulveszi (dgyulveszi@vanburenschools.net). Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns this school year. You may also contact us via your child's Dojo link, as this is our school wide communication platform. We are very excited to watch our students grow academically, build positive friendships, and mature with independence, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Here are some tips to help your child be very successful...
1. Establish nightly routines that encourage relaxation and a restful sleep
2. Make sure your child has all homework completed and placed in his/her daily homework folder
3. Eat a healthy breakfast.
4. Encourage your child to strive for personal best and persevere even when tasks get challenging.
Please remember that if your child's primary transportation schedule is to change for any given day, the change must be reported to our school secretaries no later than 2:30pm. A special transportation notice slip will be delivered to the homeroom teacher. Thank you for your support and understanding in regard to this matter. In addition, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the daily weather forecast. Our classrooms are quite cool, so dressing in layers is a good idea. Again, welcome to 4th grade! It is going to be an exciting journey ahead!
Educationally yours,
Mrs. Ali, Ms. Dagenais, and Mrs. Gyulveszi

Handwriting Without Tears
Children’s handwriting matters. It matters now, next year and for years to come. Handwriting skills affect school success. Our Handwriting Without Tears curriculum teaches correct letter formation and good handwriting habits so that our students are successful. Frustration will decrease as children’s ability to write fluidly increases. Some apps that can help your child at home are WDT Classroom and Wet, Dry, Try. You can also google Handwriting Without Tears or check out their website at www.lwtears.com for more information and resources.

Intervention helps our students READ!
Hello Rawsonville Tigers!
We've had a great start to the 2022-2023 school year and the intervention team is excited to begin supporting our students in reading. Our team members include Mrs. Swingle (grades K-2) and Mrs. Tredway (grades 3-4). In intervention, we focus on research-based strategies that will support our young learners' educational progress. As parents/guardians, you will receive an introduction letter if your child is in an intervention group. We encourage our students to use the 10/10/10 Model when reading daily: Read to Self-10 min. / Read to Someone-10 min. / Someone read to the Child-10 min. These three important components help develop strong readers. Thank you for your support. Happy Reading!

Staying safe from COVID-19 Information... We all need to do our part to keep schools open to in-person learning
The mask mandate has been lifted and is now recommended but not mandatory.
Maintaining the health and safety of our school community is of utmost importance, particularly during this unprecedented pandemic situation. Providing a safe environment is a partnership between parents/guardians and the school district. VBPS has put into place many measures to keep our students and staff safe while they are in school. We ask that our parents and guardians help to prevent the spread of COVID, as well as other illnesses by:
- Following the COVID-19 checklist guidelines
- Reporting to the nurse if your child or any household member tests positive for COVID, or if they have an actual or suspected COVID exposure
- Keeping your child home when they are sick,
- Promptly picking your child up if they become sick at school,
- Alerting the school nurse about any planned travel to discuss the required post-quarantine guideline, prior to sending your child back to school
Please contact Nurse Dionisia Munoz with any questions or concerns related to COVID-19 or other health-related issues involving the school. dmunoz@vanburenschools.net
Students who are sick must not attend school. If a student presents to be sick when at school they will be sent home and provided instructions about the possible need to quarantine. Siblings of students who are ill may also need to quarantine. We rely on our County Health Department to guide us accordingly.
