It is such a festive and fun filled season... and this week is sure to put a smile on the faces of Nixon School students as we prepare for our winter parties.

If you are signed up to volunteer for a winter party, please take pause and reflect upon the following points before heading over to Nixon School...

• If you or a member of your family is symptomatic (i.e. fever, cough, chills, sneezing, etc), please refrain from volunteering.

• If you or a member of your family is awaiting the results of a Covid-19 test, please refrain from volunteering.

• If your child is going to be absent from school for any sickness on the day when you would be volunteering, we respectfully ask that you refrain from volunteering.

• If volunteering, a face mask MUST be worn when in the school building.

• Please be prepared to complete a Health and Wellness survey upon arrival. This will be coupled with a secure check-in in our security vestibule. Please be prepared with your driver's license.

Your cooperation in helping to keep our school community healthy is greatly appreciated by all!!!

Per the NJDOH guidance, individuals, including children, who are fully vaccinated and who are two weeks or more post their second shot, do NOT need to quarantine if identified as a close contact. Rather, close contacts who are fully vaccinated will be informed of close contact status so that they can monitor for possible onset of symptoms; however, absent symptoms or a positive test, fully vaccinated individuals will not need to quarantine. If your child is fully vaccinated and you are comfortable sharing this information with Mrs. Leonard, our School Nurse, please email her a copy of your child's vaccination card at cleonard@roxbury.org. Thank you.

As we enter the season of giving and many children find themselves enjoying new video games, watching movies, etc. I would encourage families to infuse conversations about Fantasy versus Reality. We are finding that many children are taking their experiences from the virtual world (i.e. saying hurtful/harmful things to others, etc) with no awareness of reprecussions. Linked here is a graphic organizer that can help to structure these conversations.

You may be aware that electric, gas, and water utility companies in New Jersey will resume shut off of service in January for customers with unpaid overdue balances.

The NJ Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU) is trying to get the word out about their utility assistance programs to families behind on their utility bills now, so residents have time to apply for help and bring down their balances before January.

Attached is the State’s energy assistance brochure, and the NJ BPU’s fall flyer (both attached in English and Spanish).

The income limits for these utility assistance programs have been temporarily raised as of October 1st so more families can access assistance they need. For example, a household of four with income at or below $106,000 per year can qualify for monthly credits and energy debt forgiveness through the Universal Service Fund (USF) program.

If your child is quarantined and participating in virtual instruction and you are having any tech issues, please contact the Tech Department directly, so that they can work with you to resolve any issues.
