October 18, 2023
Hello, USD 231 Patrons and Employees.
I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing with two important pieces of information.
Representative Visits
In the past month, we have been fortunate to host visits with elected representatives, United States Senator Jerry Moran and United States Representative Sharice Davids. These visits are a testament to the importance of quality public education and the significant role USD 231 schools play in our community. It is an honor to have them on our campus, and we believe these visits serve as a valuable educational experience for our students.
During the tours, Senator Moran and Representative Davids witnessed firsthand the incredible work our educators and students accomplish every day. They engaged in discussions with teachers, visited classrooms, and interacted with our students, all while emphasizing the significance of public education in our society.
These visits also serve as a valuable moment for our representatives to observe firsthand how public policy affects our students and employees.
Strategic Plan
In my last newsletter, I shared that an important part of our Strategic Plan was the development of our stakeholder's vision for the school district and that it focuses on five key areas: learning, teaching, leadership, professional learning, and wider community engagement. These areas are used as the basis for specific outcomes that are detailed in USD 231’s strategic plan—defining how our district will continually develop graduates who are ready to contribute and lead in an ever-evolving world.
In this newsletter, I highlight the learning aspect of our Vision.
Gardner Edgerton District 231 is dedicated to providing dynamic learning that is rich in applied opportunities that will equip each student with the tools and skills needed to be the drivers of their experiences. To achieve this level of ownership, we will foster the foundational academic and social skills needed to thrive in and beyond school.
Our district values cultivating a passion for learning by exploring interest-based classes, projects, and work. We will connect learners to point-of-need mentors and subject experts to further enable all students to engage in their personal areas of interest.
Lastly, by designing experiences fostering academic growth, self-awareness, critical thinking, and wellness, Gardner Edgerton District 231 will inspire all students to be lifelong learners and leaders in our community and beyond.
Until next time!
Sincerely,
Brian
