A Message From the High School Health Office
As we approach the start to the 2023-2024 school year, we wanted to give a quick reminder on the procedural workings of the health office and general illness exclusion.
Leaving School Ill:
Any student who becomes ill at school is required to leave school through the health office for their absences to be excused. Students should be contacting their guardian for pick up from the health office only. It is a safety concern to have students leaving the high school ill without discussing it with the health office staff and ensuring the student’s attendance is accurately recorded.
Illness Exclusion:
If your student has a fever, 100.0 degrees or higher, they must stay home until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
If your student is vomiting due to illness they must be out for 24 hours from their last episode of vomiting.
If your student has diarrhea, defined as an increasing number of stools that are more loose then normal, they must be out for 24 hours from their last episode of diarrhea.
If your student has uncontrolled coughing they must stay home.
If your student has difficulty breathing they should not be attending school.
Medications:
If your student needs to have medication at school, we require the guardian to fill out the “Authorization for Administration of Medication at School” form.
Prescription medications will not be accepted by the health office unless the health office has the prescription from a licensed provider, on file.
Over the counter medications only require a guardian's signature.
All medication must be kept in the health office.
Medications are not allowed to be transported on the school bus- they must be dropped off at the school by an adult.
Medication must be supplied in the original bottle (prescription and over the counter) in the correct dosage (i.e. whole pills or half pills).
For more information please contact the health office or reference North Branch School Policy #516.
Allergy/Asthma plans:
If your student has allergies or asthma please be sure to fill out an allergy or asthma plan.
Immunizations:
Is your student currently up to date on all Minnesota State Required Immunizations?
If not; please set up a medical appointment for your student as soon as possible or complete the conscientious objection form. Please note the conscientious objection form requires the use of a notary. Our lead secretary, Kim Houle, is able to notarize these for your convenience.
Please feel free to contact the health office with any questions.
We look forward to helping keep your students healthy and in school!
