Summer Vacation 2021
Relaxing After the Disastrous COVID-19 School Year
The Time Has Finally Come...
As the world was physically and metaphorically up in flames with the COVID-19 outbreak, first responders and medical personnel saved the day and were praised throughout the media for their hard work during the pandemic. Enter, the unsung heroes: teachers. All over the world, teachers seamlessly switched gears and without complaint, learned how to continue teaching from the safety of their homes. After nearly 14 months of virtual teaching, things are seeming as though they are getting back to normal. Time for teachers to relax- SUMMER 2021! Read along to see what I've been doing this summer.
Spending time with friends & family
Whether it's spending time at the beach, hanging out with my cats at home, or going out to eat, this summer is all about spending time with friends and family.
Reading.. lots!
Another way I like to relax is reading. I'm doing a ton of reading this summer- mainly for my LIBS 642 Children's Literature class, but also in two separate book clubs! One book club I'm in is with some friends, we meet monthly. I recently started going to a Silent Book Club- meeting at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) one day a week. In a silent book club, members bring their own reading material. We all introduce ourselves, tell a little about what we're reading, and then set a timer for an hour and sit around the grounds of the museum and read. It's quite lovely!
Sweating daily!
I've always loved exercising. I belong to Burn Boot Camp which has allowed me to form an amazing family of Burn sisters. I also belong to a run club, NERC (North End Run Club). We meet at different locations around Virginia Beach each Tuesday evening and run as a group- we start together and finish together. It's a really great community!
Working... Just a little!
The Virgo in me won't let me be completely relaxed, so I am still keeping myself a little busy! This summer I've been tutoring a friend's daughter in math, as well as subbing in my school's Summer Learning Camp on occasion. Most importantly, though, I've been attending markets for my business, Allison's Wonderland, selling my macramé shelving, hangers, décor, and accessories.
