Every February, in the United States, we celebrate the achievements and history of African Americans as part of Black History Month. During this time, we honor and recognize the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history. During this month at school, we will highlight some of these influential people as we read about them every day on our announcements. You can also find their picture and read a little bit about them in our gallery located in the hallway near our cafeteria.

Congratulations to the following students on being chosen for positive shoutouts! These exceptional students have demonstrated PRIDE behavior and have had a positive impact on their peers. We would like to thank them for their acts of kindness and for their overall exemplary behavior.

Our 5th graders in Mr. Contenza's, Mr. Young's, and Mrs. Jonke's classes have been working very hard! Our awesome students are busy learning and studying many topics in their curriculum. Some samples of units they are currently learning include; fractions in math and like all our grade levels, they are working on developing math vocabulary. In ELA, they are writing African American biographies and will be writing a 4 paragraph informational report as well as a bio poem from the perspective of the person they chose. In science, they are studying the solar system. In addition to all their work, we are lucky to have the Fab Lab at Jefferson. Mrs. Gail Myers has been coming into the classrooms to teach students how to design 3D projects and use the 3D printer. Students were able to visit the trailer in small groups and learn so much to design a free choice project. Keep up the good work 5th grade!

The month of February is flying by for us. We are having fun daily by following our activity calendar for the month. We will continue into March with more fun activities that revolve around our One School, One Book. The title of the book is a surprise and our students will find out when we have our kick-off on February 22nd. Stay tuned for more fun details! Today is the 100th day of school for our kindergarten classes. It was a fun-filled day with counting objects to one hundred. The teachers planned activities around the hundreds theme. All of this before the Valentine's celebration. It was a great day!

The staff and students at Jefferson would like to recognize all the hard work and efforts that our custodial staff puts in every single day to keep us safe. They are continually cleaning surfaces, such as tables, chairs, and door handles, all throughout the day and well into the evening hours. We appreciate them and are thankful to have them as part of our staff at Jefferson.

Be sure to remind them when you order that it is for the benefit of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. You can order between 10:30 am - 11:30 pm. Today we had fun wearing hearts and red to celebrate Valentine's Day! Thank you for adhering to our new regulations this year by sending them in early so that they can be passed out today.
