Thank You for Participating in the Community Engagement Process
The initial data-gathering phase of the Community Engagement Process for Facilities that was initiated by the Board in May 2019 has concluded after 6 months of hard work of all those involved. LASD staff, MIG staff, the Project Team, and most importantly, engaged members of the public from a diverse cross section of our community have all worked to ensure the Board has the valuable information it needs to determine a long term facilities solution.
Charrettes and Workshops Drew Record Crowds
The charrettes and workshops have concluded. We want to sincerely thank the over 700 community members that actively participated in the charrettes and workshops! We appreciate all of your feedback, passion and support for top-quality education in our community for every child.
We held two charrettes in September and October and three workshops in November. In the charrettes, community members produced over 50 community-generated ideas. The Board truly appreciates your creativity and thoughtfulness in producing such a wide array of options for the community to weigh in the workshops. In the workshops, participants shared their level of support for all of those community-generated options so that the Board will have a better understanding of community-supported solutions that could meet the long term facilities needs for both BCS and LASD.
Closing the Email Comment Period for the Report
While we will continue to review all emails that come through the communityengagement@lasdschools.org email address, we will close the window for comments to be included in the final report from our independent MIG facilitator at 5:00pm on Friday, November 22. If you didn't have a chance to participate in the workshops, but would like to provide your feedback on the various options, please send your email before the deadline.
Next Steps
Our MIG facilitator will present the findings and a full report of the community engagement process during our Los Altos School District Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, January 27 at 7pm. MIG has extensive experience in community engagement and their expertise in guiding us through their data collection and analysis will be invaluable as we move forward analyzing community feedback and support.
Following the report, the Board will host a series of public meetings to review all of the community-supported options, weigh them against the Board's Guiding Principles for the process and determine a long term facilities solution. We invite all members of our community (LASD parents, BCS parents and community members alike) to join us and continue to be heard. We will keep you informed of the meeting schedule once it is established.
