Superintendent's Update - 2.17.2023
Dear CPS Community,
The long-awaited vacation week is upon us allowing for a much-needed break to relax and spend some downtime with family and friends. Starting at the end of school today, our schools will be closed for school vacation and will reopen again on Monday, February 27th leaving us with only one day left in February. Before you know it, we will be flipping the calendars to “March” into the next month!
This past week brought some excitement with the celebration of Valentine’s Day and many spirit week events leading up to vacation. These events are always a treat for our students and is a way to connect students to their school outside of required academics. Also celebrated this week was School Resource Officers Appreciation Day on Wednesday, February 15th. These specially trained officers are a tremendous resource to teachers, parents, and students and enhance our school community by providing direction, counseling, and advice to keep our schools safe and our students connected to school and the larger community. This partnership was especially important this week as Chelmsford was the target of a “swatting call” at Chelmsford High School. Thankfully, it was quickly determined the call was in fact a hoax and our high school students and staff were safe. The support of Chief James Spinney and the Chelmsford Police Department has made the School Resource Officer positions possible, the partnership between our schools and his department is a priority. I would like to personally recognize and thank our school resource officers Becky Tyros, Dan Sullivan, and Ashley Rokas for their dedication and hard work in our schools. They are a welcomed part of our school community.
I hope you enjoy this week’s highlights. Your child will be able to tell you about all the exciting things they participated in this week. I wish everyone a very restful and fun-filled vacation week.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.
