Take Home Tuesday
April 4, 2023
Updates from the Principal's Office
Dear Sward Families,
It's that time of year again... time for the spring State Tests :) It is time for our students in grades 3 through 5 to show all they know! :)
The Illinois Assessment for Readiness begins next week. As with any important test, please remind your child to try their very best on every question they encounter. They have learned so much and should be very proud to demonstrate what they know on this test. You can help at home by ensuring they have a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. Attendance is important, so if your child is healthy enough to be at school, please send them.
Your partner in education,
Mrs. Candy Kramer
Summer School Opportunities
Summer is approaching quickly and will be here before we even know it! Click here to learn all about our District 123 summer programming.
Thunderbolts Reading Incentive
In today's Take Home Tuesday folder, your child will be bringing home this reading tracker. For each 30 minutes of reading, your child can color in one dot as they make their way around the bases. Once they have completed coloring in all of the dots, they will receive a voucher to receive 2 complimentary tickets to attend a Windy City Thunderbolts baseball game on either Wednesday, June 28 or Sunday, July 2. If more than 2 tickets are desired, you will have the ability to purchase additional tickets at a discounted rate of $5 each. The reading trackers are due to me by May 1. The sooner you return the reading tracker, the sooner you will be able to submit the voucher for your tickets. Happy Reading!

A Note from Nurse Dina
Attention parents: Strep throat is on the rise in our school community. Please be mindful that strep is very contagious so it is important to keep children home from school if they are feeling ill. Strep is spread through respiratory droplets. Breathing in the infected droplets or touching a surface with infected droplets then touching nose, mouth or eyes can cause someone to become sick. Strep can have many symptoms, and some children present with the illness differently. Symptoms include fever, pain with swallowing, swollen glands and or tonsils. There might also be white patches, pus filled pockets or tiny red spots on tonsils. With strep throat some individuals may have a stomach and headache as well as vomiting and a rash. Be mindful that you might have most of the symptoms or only one. Going to the doctor and getting tested for strep if symptoms present is very important. Untreated strep can cause complications so getting the correct treatment is imperative.
