Harvey-Swanson Elementary Weekly Newsletter
Fall Festival is Tomorrow!
This year the Fall Festival will also include our famous Scare Fair. This is open to the entire family and even friends! Keep in mind, this is our main fundraising event for the school year which will help to pay for assemblies, field trips, Science Alive, and much more for our students.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are in need of parents/families to volunteer on the night of to help make this evening a success. We‘ll need volunteers to run the games and food station. In addition we need volunteers to dress up as characters from the movie Monsters University to be actors in the maze (script and costume provided). If you can help in any way, please let us know.
Halloween Fun
Halloween at Harvey Swanson is going to be great! We will have a parade that will begin at 10:00 and lead through town. We will return to Harvey Swanson in time for classroom parties.
When planning costumes for your child, please keep in mind we have younger students in the building. We remind the students each day that school is a safe place and keeping with that theme, please do not send in pretend weapons or wear gory or violent costumes (this also includes blood.) It will scare some of our students and we want this to be a fun event for all. As always, we thank you in helping keep activities appropriate and exciting for all ages of our students.
H.E.L.P. Meeting is Tonight!
Did you know Harvey Swanson Elementary is a Title 1 school? This means that we receive money from the federal government to use for instructional purposes with our students.
Harvey Swanson is a school-wide Title 1 school which means that we are able to use
materials and services purchased with Title 1 money to benefit all of our students.
At the October H.E.L.P. meeting tonight, at 6 p.m. I will share details about our Title
1 status and how we use those funds at Harvey Swanson. Please plan to attend the H.E.L.P.
meeting in the Harvey Swanson library to hear this important information.
What's Happening in...
Our focus in the art room is The Elements of Art! Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Space, Form and Value! We will make our connections to these themes though established artist artwork and multiple media techniques. I am also trying to have all grades create drafts or practice for our artwork before we get to the good materials. Creating is about thought and learning to fine tune our abilities to create quality work.
Currently our focus per grade level is:
Kindergarten: Shape, Color and Line; Fine tuning our coloring skills creating Hands, and now Pumpkins! Some work will be saved for a future hallway display.
1st Grade: Joan Miro! Shapes, Color, Space, Line and composition.
2nd Grade: Shape Weaving! Including Color and Line with a fall theme.
3rd Grade: We are hitting a lot of art concepts in this project! Value, Color, Tints, Shades, Space, Shape, and creative outcomes for our deep water Silhouette artwork.
Thank you for supporting your artists!
