Looking Back to 2018 and forward to a new year of science!
Happy New Year and welcome back! We will have so much fun in our new semester of science exploration – starting with the next topic of the Earth, sun, and moon – eclipses! Next week, we will compare the surface of the moon (at least what we know of it) to our own planet and other celestial bodies. Be sure to check out the information below about the Chinese spacecraft that just landed on the moon.
News of Astronomy for the Week: As we discuss the moon in more depth this week and next, an exciting development occurred last week in astronomy. For the FIRST TIME EVER, a spacecraft has landed on the dark side of the moon. Check out more information about this historic event in this article from Earthsky.org. Also of interest – there is a total lunar eclipse later this month (the night of Jan. 20-21) with the year’s first supermoon. Research what a supermoon is before our next class.
