Dr. James Crawford selected as our next Superintendent!

After a lengthy search process that began in the fall with the launch of community surveys and focus groups, the search for the next Superintendent of the Bremerton School District culminated this week with selected finalists spending an entire day in the District meeting with staff, students, community, and the Board.

After careful consideration, the Board of Directors is enthusiastically welcoming Dr. James Crawford back to Bremerton to serve as our next Superintendent of the Bremerton School District. Dr. Crawford's instructional leadership experience, research and data background, connections to innovative CTE programs, coupled with his genuine dedication and sincere approach to creating equitable education experiences for all students were key considerations for the Board. In addition, Dr. Crawford's own educational and life experiences growing up in Bremerton provide meaningful context and personal connections to our motto, "We are Bremerton." The Board of Directors looks forward to working closely with Dr. Crawford in the coming months to develop a strong collaborative relationship with a shared vision and goals that will anchor Bremerton School District's future excellence.

More about Dr. Crawford

Dr. Crawford currently serves as the interim Senior Director of High School Academics for Portland Public Schools. He taught for seven years in both the Pullman and Puyallup School Districts, and has served in a number of leadership roles in the Federal Way School District including elementary and middle school principal, Director of Assessment, Accountability and Title 1, and Chief Academic Officer.

Dr. Crawford earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Washington State University, his Master of Education degree from the University of Washington, and his Doctorate of Education (Ed. D) in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Washington State University. He is a 1998 Bremerton High School graduate.

Next steps

The board president will begin negotiating a contract with Dr. Crawford. The board will vote on the contract at the March 16 regular board meeting.
