Principal Weekly Update
2023-2024
February 2, 2024 - Principal Message
Parents and Families,
We are off to a strong start to the 2nd semester. Congratulations to our 74 mid-year graduates. This is the most RHS has ever had. The ceremony can be view here
Please make it a routine to regularly review your child's grades on PowerSchool. We aim to foster a two-way communication channel between teachers and parents. If you notice a decline in your child's grades, please take the initiative to reach out to the teachers, just as they are encouraged to reach out to you.
Mobile phones are not deemed essential, as parents can communicate with the school, and students will receive messages through appropriate channels. It is advisable to encourage students to keep their phones in their backpacks throughout the day, ensuring they are on silent to avoid distractions during class. Students experiencing difficulties with school-issued devices are urged to promptly submit them to the media center when such issues arise.
Students seeking clarification regarding their spring semester schedule can reach out to their designated counselor via email or visit them at the Counselors’ Corner. Please be aware that course corrections concluded at the start of the year. Although we are not accepting change of heart requests, we are open to considering course corrections for students meeting specific criteria. This includes those enrolled in a course for which they already have credit, enrolled without meeting the prerequisite, aiming to enhance the level of rigor, or needing to add a course required for promotion or graduation due to fall semester course failure(s).
Please see the announcements below

SOS-Signs of Suicide
Each year, our SAP Counselor, Chichi Owino, is required to teach a lesson called 'SOS-Signs of Suicide' to the 9th and 12th grade students through health class. The lesson encourages students to recognize the signs of depression in themselves or a friend and to seek help. We realize that some students/families are sensitive to this topic and prefer to not engage in the lesson. If you would like to opt out your student, please email Ms. Owino at cowino@wcpss.net with your child's first and last name.

If you have a student who drives to school, please ensure that they have a valid parking pass and encourage them to park in the designated area. Students who park on campus without the required parking permit can be subject to towing. Signs have been placed on campus indicating where towed vehicles can be retrieved. It's important to note that the cost of towing will be the responsibility of the vehicle owner.
Student Dress Code
A friendly reminder to all students to adhere to the dress code on a daily basis. Please refrain from wearing clothing that is excessively short or revealing of private areas. Additionally, avoid wearing headgear or sunglasses inside the building. If a student is found to be in violation of the dress code, they will be asked to make the necessary corrections.
