IFNSS Week 20 Update

Assalamu alaikum respected parents and families,

I pray everyone is staying warm, safe and healthy in sha Allah. Last Sunday (Feb 12th), during our Morning ASSEMBLY, we talked about the Turkey/Syria Earthquake and encouraged students to make dua for all the "shuhda", and those who are left behind without their families and homes and are struggling to survive in the cold weather and are in dire need of the basic necessities of life. We can feel the pain of our muslim brothers and sisters in Turkey/Syria and encouraged all students to donate and give charity for our brothers and sisters in Turkey/Syria. We discussed the many benefits and rewards of charity and students volunteered to read several hadiths that underscore the importance of charity in Islam.

Last Sunday, our 7th and 8th grade students were provided an opportunity to attend a special event organized by IFN HSYC (High School Youth Core) Program on "Identity Crisis Among Muslim Youth" led by Licensed Professional Counselor, Sr. Mehwish Aqueel, and Br. Imam Azfar from 10:00 AM - 11:30.

This Sunday, February 19th, is an EARLY RELEASE DAY for ALL students. All students will be dismissed at 11:30. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held in the IFN BANQUET HALL downstairs from 11:45 - 1:00. Teachers will be seated by their grade levels at tables and parents will have a chance to talk to their children's teachers and discuss their progress etc. This is a great opportunity for all parents to connect with their child's teachers and we look forward to seeing all parents in sha Allah!

This Sunday, MUHSEN is holding a Youth Workshop for all students in the Men's Musalla Area. It is a great opportunity for students to learn about and experience the differences in abilities through hands on interactive activities. There will be a short talk followed by activities such that students will walk around to visit different stations and engage in various activities to learn more about the unique strengths and challenges of children with specific needs. Pre-K to 2nd grade students will attend the workshop from 10:00 - 10:30. 3rd grade to 5th grade students will attend the workshop from 10:30 - 11:00 and 6th grade to 8th grade students will attend the workshop from 11:00 - 11:30.

NOTE: The following information is for the parents of the 1st place winners of IFNSS Qiraat Competition. They will have the opportunity to participate in the MEC Qiraat Competition in March 2023. We request all parents to make sure their children have started preparing. Participating Students in grades 1-7 should let their Quran Teachers know the Surah that they will be reciting by this Sunday, February 19th. There is already an assigned surah for 8th grade (see below) Also Quran teachers can listen to the recitation and help students prepare in sha Allah.

Rules for 1st to 7th grades:

· recite from any Surah or any portion of the Quran

· recitation must be limited to 3 minutes

· recite from memory or from a copy of the Quran

· no extra points for longer Surahs or more difficult rukus

· no extra points for memorization

· Judging Criterion for 1st to 4th grades: Lahn/Fluency

· Judging Criteria for 5th to 7th grades: Makharij and Lahn/Fluency

Rules for 8th to 10th grades:

All 8th, 9th and 10th graders must practice all three rukus given below because you do not know which ruku will be assigned to your grade. On the day of the competition, one of these three rukus will be assigned to the 8th graders, one to the 9th graders and one to the 10th graders:

a. Surah Al-Hadeed (Surah #57) Ayaat 20-25

b. Surah As-Sajdah (Surah #32) Ayaat 16-22

c. Surah Al-Fatir (Surah #35) Ayaat 27-35

Judging Criteria for 8th to 10th grades: Makharij & Sifaat, Laam-ul-Jalaalah, Rules of Ra, Noon Sakin & Tanween, Meem Sakin, Madd, Waqf & Ibtida, Lahn/Fluency

Our IFN Sunday School Annual Surah Memorization Competition will be held on March 5th, 2023 during Sunday School. Students in grades Kindergarten to 8th grade can participate by memorizing the assigned surah in sha Allah. Quran teachers will assign the surahs on this Sunday, February 19th. 1st Semster Report Cards are available in Sunweb on your Parent Portal. Please see the directions below on how to access your child's report card in Sunweb. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher(s) if you have any questions.

We announced our "Star Students of the Month" for the month of January. From each grade level, 1-2 students were chosen for demonstrating excellence "ihsan" in their behavior, conduct, academics or overall performance. These students were nominated by teachers for reasons such as "being helpful, being prepared for class, participation in class, homework completion, showing EFFORT towards personal student goals, etc". We are so proud of ALL our students and our goal is to "catch them doing good" and "recognize" them for their efforts and progress. Please see below a list of all our star students this month. They received their "Star Student of the Month" certificates and also earned a prize from our office prize box. Some students who were absent did not receive their certificates yet but can get them from the office this coming Sunday. We are proud of all our students ma sha Allah. Keep up the great work!
