Return to Full Day In-Person Learning: April 12th
Our in-person learners will begin full-day in-person instruction on Monday, April 12th. Please take a look at the COVID parent checklist for tips on what to send with your child on Monday.
COVID Parent Checklist
Updated COVID Parent Handbook
School Breakfast & Lunch Program
Students will be asked everyday if they need breakfast for the following day. For example, on Monday they will be asked if they need to order breakfast for Tuesday. Please make sure your child knows if they should be ordering a breakfast or not.
If a child does order a breakfast, they will be eating the breakfast at school, 6 feet apart, from other students. They will be encouraged to eat their breakfast in a timely manner so as not to miss too much instruction! If you drop off your child and they will be eating breakfast at school, please try to arrive 5-10 minutes before 7:40 at Swartz or 7:50 at Salt Creek Primary.
The menus for lunch and breakfast are attached to this newsletter.
We are continuing our meal pick-up at Albright Middle School. Any District 48 family can pick up 5 days worth of meals (breakfast and lunch) at Albright Middle School at Door 2 on Tuesdays from 1:00-1:30 and 2:30-3:00.
Lunch & Recess Procedures
Students will be going outside for recess if the weather permits. During that time, each class will be assigned a designated area for recess. One class will be on the playground, while the other class will be playing on the blacktop. During recess, students will need to wear that mask if they cannot stay 6 feet apart from other students. If a child would like to use recess as a mask break, they can, as long as they are 6 feet apart. If it is raining, students will have recess in their classroom. Their teacher will provide them with activities to do during this time.
Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Monroe went through the lunch and recess procedure with each class on Thursday and Friday this week! The students had some awesome questions to ask about our procedures. They are excited to do them in person on Monday!
New Bus Times
Students are assigned a seat on the bus and must wear a mask during their bus ride. There are no more than 49 students on a bus.
Salt Creek Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Car Riders:
Arrival:
You may drop off your child between 7:35 and 7:50.
Please pull your car to the side door on the blacktop. You can remain in your car. We are always working on building independence in our young learners. Your child will need to independently get themselves out of the car! If this is tricky for your child, please keep practicing! Once your child has exited your car, you can pull forward and exit the parking lot. If there are any buses in front of you, PLEASE WAIT FOR THE BUS TO MOVE BEFORE YOU EXIT!!!
Dismissal:
You may begin lining up for dismissal after 2:15.
We will be keeping our procedure the same as we have done all year with car riders. Each car should have a name card for dismissal. Please make sure to have the name card prominently displayed in your car window. (If you need another sign, please call the office!)
Pull onto the blacktop and follow the circle (see map below). When you get to the pick-up location, your child will come to your car. Please stay in your car. Wait for a staff member to tell you to exit the blacktop. Exit the same way you came in.
In the event that the blacktop is full, we will advise parents to wait to pull in. Depending on the amount of cars waiting, you will either be asked to stop along the lane leading onto the blacktop, or you may be asked to park in our parking lot or on Frontage road and pull in when there is room on the blacktop. To avoid parking, please arrive after our buses enter at 2:30.
There will be more cars during dismissal now that we are full days with all students. Please be patient as we adjust our dismissal process! We want to make sure that our students and families are safe during this process!
Stella May Swartz Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Car Riders:
Arrival:
Please drop off and pick up your child on Elder Road (see map below).
For arrival, please remain in your car and have your child exit safely. You may drop off your child between 7:25-7:40. Your child will enter the school through the door that is designated for their grade level. There will be a gate across the entrance after 7:40. When the gate is there, please drive to the main entrance to let your child in the school. PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF YOUR CHILD AT THE MAIN ENTRANCE BEFORE 7:40!
Dismissal:
Please remain in your car and wait for your child to be dismissed. Students will find a visual marker to stand on outside while waiting for their ride. They will walk to their car when they see their parent. Please display the car sign in your passenger window to make the process of dismissal run smoothly! If you need a new sign, please contact the office.

Required Dental Exams
All Illinois children in Kindergarten and 2nd grade or any new student to the district (in 1st, 3rd or 4th grade) are required by the state to provide school with proof of a dental exam by May 15, 2021. Any dental exam completed between November 2019 and May 15, 2021 will fulfill the state's requirement. If a dental exam form is not received by May 15, 2021, the school may hold the child's report card until proof of a dental examination form is received or until the school receives proof (ex: appointment card) that a dental examination will take place within 60 days after May 15, 2021. Please call our school nurse with questions.
Streaming In For Live Instruction Guidelines
If in-person learning is selected, students must attend in-person unless there is an extenuating circumstance, which must be discussed with your child’s school for approval. Per approval, your child will be able to participate in remote learning. If the extenuating circumstances are not approved by your child’s school, your child runs the risk of receiving an unexcused absence and will not be able to participate remotely.
If you miss the bus, please try to make every effort possible to get your child to school. Also, please call the office to let us know. Students will not be able to live stream in if they miss the bus.

FTC Updates
The FTC has partnered with Believe Kids Fundraising to raise money for our newest capital campaign & teacher requests through the end of the current school year (including but not limited to: yard signs, 8th grade graduation needs & teacher appreciation!). Your fundraising email will be sent home on Monday, April 12th. Please make sure to check your Email! This fundraiser will be conducted completely virtually. You can now check out the available products and set up your dashboard to be able to share the fundraiser with family and friends anywhere nationwide at www.FundPrizes.com. When you follow the link you will register by providing an email address and creating a password. Once finished with that you will register your child with Salt Creek Primary School and your student's teacher. (Please note that the entire district is listed under Salt Creek Primary. Even if your student attends Albright or Swartz, please fill it out under Salt Creek Primary. Albright students should just use the main teacher for the grade.) Then you are all ready to shop the fundraiser and share the information for the fundraiser with family & friends. Pay online or text-to-pay options will be available and ship-to-home direct for all customers! Please consider using this fundraiser as a way for grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who would have typically engaged in other fundraising opportunities and/or events throughout a typical school year to support our district!!! Thank you so much!
When Should You Keep Your Child Home?
In addition, if one of your children is experiencing a COVID19 symptom, all of your children need to stay home.
If someone in the household has tested positive for COVID-19 or is identified as a close contact to someone that has tested positive please call the office. The nurse will follow-up to gather the information required by the health department, discuss next steps, and answer any questions you may have.
