Afternoon Car Rider
We have had a lot of new families picking up students at the ended of the day, so we wanted to send reminders out for car pick up line expectations.
- All traffic MUST enter using the traffic light at Hwy 17 and Jenkins Rd. (This is the light that is the main entrance to Topsail High School).
- Once you have entered the line you should not be cutting off or trying to get in front of other cars
- For families who have students at both schools, TMS students will be escorted over to TAES to wait and load with their younger siblings. If you want your TMS student to walk over and meet their elementary sibling for dismissal, please communicate that to your middle school child and to their TMS teacher.
- After turning onto Jenkins Rd., parents will continue straight to the stop sign and make a right on St. John's Church Rd.
- Parents will follow St. John's Church Rd. past the front of Topsail High School. They will then make a left into the THS student parking lot (please ignore the signs that say βstudents onlyβ). Please DO NOT turn into the TAES parking lot without first riding through the THS parking lot. Parents will stack/line up along the sidewalks surrounding the THS student lot.
- Parents will follow the exterior sidewalks of the student parking lot and make an entire βsquareβ before exiting the parking lot.
- As parents exit the THS student parking lot, a staff member will be present to assist with traffic direction, as parents will cross over to enter the TAES parking lot.
- Parents will then drive straight forward (towards 17) in the TAES parking lot and after passing the breezeway and the flagpole, make a left into the front playground area.
- Please do not block the entrance way to the school. We must keep the entrance clear in the event an emergency vehicle needs to gain access to our school.
- A staff member will be at the gate. Please have your green card clearly displayed in your front driver's side window. If you do not have a green card, please request one from your child's teacher. Your card should have your elementary school child(ren)'s names and grade levels clearly written so we can call for them and they can be ready to load when you pull up. If somebody else is picking your child up in the car rider line, please give them your child's card.
- Parents will line up along the sidewalk, in the front playground area, where students will load into vehicles.
- Please pull straight forward, all the way up to the vehicle in front of you or to the end of the sidewalk. Be sure students can easily enter your backseat through the back driver's side door of your car. We do NOT want students walking in between cars to enter the front passenger side door.
- If your child requires assistance with a car seat or seat belt, please pull all the way to the front of the line or please pull over to assist them. Please do not exit your vehicle in the car rider line.
- Parents will exit the front playground area by making a right and using the light in front of TMS to turn onto HWY 17. Both lanes are able to turn right at that light.
- Please yield to any buses that you may encounter throughout this process.
- Parents, to keep the line moving efficiently, please do NOT exit your vehicle during drop off or pick-up. Parents may not park at the high school and walk their students down to the elementary school. The only parents that should be walking students down from the high school are high school staff members.
- Please remember for the safety of our staff and students, parent walk-ups are NOT allowed during morning or afternoon drop off/pick-up.
Thank you for following our procedures and ensuring the safety of our students and staff!

Neighborhood Forest Tree Registration
This spring, we are thrilled to announce our participation in Neighborhood Forest's 15th Annual Free Tree Program as part of our Earth Week celebrations from April 22nd to 26th!
Since 2010, Neighborhood Forest has engaged over 1,500 institutions, reached over 500,000 families and planted over 130,000 (mostly urban and residential) trees through the hands of children and parents across North America.
We are excited to be participating in this wonderful program that teaches youth about the importance of environmental stewardship through the magic and wonder of planting and watching trees grow.
Please fill out the following online registration form by March 15th and receive a free tree (6-12 inches in size) during Earth Week (April 22-26). The tree species will be announced in early April. Neighborhood Forest aims to provide native trees in all regions they serve.
Register to receive a free tree for Earth Day to plant with your child:
https://www.neighborhoodforest.org/parent-registration/?school=54941
You will also have the option to donate and / or purchase additional trees and tree-related educational products (via the registration form). Please note this is optional and any purchases/donations will help fund more free trees for kids in the program.
Trees will be delivered to us and we will arrange to get the trees in the hands of your children on or around Earth Day (April 22nd).
Instructions on planting and caring for the trees, along with species details, will be emailed a few days before the tree delivery and will also be accessible in the βResourcesβ section on the Neighborhood Forest website. For further questions, please check out the Parent FAQs.
