This Week at GLOBE
News & Notes | February 23, 2022
From the Executive Director
Dear GLOBE community,
I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. We've got a line-up of special days ahead, including virtual visits from authors to celebrate Black History Month, the upcoming Science Week, Read Across America Day, along with Dress-down Thursdays and Represent Fridays. We also have our next Board of Directors meeting on Monday (details below).
I'm delighted to report that Saturday's vaccination clinic was a huge success. 71 vaccines were administered, 22 were pediatric vaccines (ages 5-11) and nearly 30 GLOBE students received a first/second dose or booster. Following the event, GLOBE was featured in a great news article by Rolling Out author, Rashad Milligan. A special thank you to Rachael Lewis and everyone who helped organize the clinic. I am so thrilled that we were able to offer this opportunity to our community.
As always, if you have any questions, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director

Host families wanted
We are excited to announce that GLOBE has applied for the French Teaching Intern (FTI) grant from the French Embassy, and the Spanish Conversation and Cultural Assistant (Auxiliares) grant from the Spanish Embassy. We are anxiously awaiting approval!
Pending approval, we are looking for some amazing GLOBE families to share their home with an FTI or Auxiliar. Please contact Robyn Brandman, Host Family Liaison, at robynloren@gmail.com if you would love to host an FTI or Spanish Auxiliar.
Read Across America Day
Elementary school students (K–5) will be celebrating Read Across America Day on March 1 and 2. All students will celebrate on their English day! Students will have the opportunity to choose a book that represents their culture or family history. They can dress up as a person from that book and if possible donate a copy of the book to their classroom library. We hope to add additional books to the classroom libraries so they can be even more robust and reflective of our diverse community. Reading diverse and inclusive books in the coming weeks might help your student discover a character with whom they identify. You might even find one here on Read Across America's calendar for the year. Looking for even more diverse books? Click here.
Dress-down Thursdays
Last chance to order your yearbook
If you haven’t ordered your yearbook, you must order soon. We just set our print numbers and we cannot change it after Friday, February 25. If you don’t order, you are not guaranteed to get a book. Click here to order it today!
How did you celebrate the winter holidays? We would like to feature your festivities on our holidays page. Upload them using ReplayIt (user ID is 416725960). When prompted for a caption, list only name(s) and grade(s). Alternatively, you can email photos to yearbook@theglobeacademy.net. Make sure you include names and grades.
Lower Campus
As part of Black History Month, we are thrilled to virtually welcome author James Wilson, Jr. to LC on Thursday, February 24 and Friday, February 25. There will also be a performance by Djoli Kelen (Jo-Lee-Keh-Leh) on February 24.
Do you have a current 3rd grade student at GLOBE?
Upper Campus Assistant Head of School Judy Limor will be hosting a meeting for current 3rd grade parents to talk about 4th grade at GLOBE and the transition to Upper Campus on Thursday, February 24, at 5:30pm. Click here for the Zoom link.

Please view this letter for important information about Georgia Milestones Testing this Spring, and for testing dates to mark on the calendar.
Upper Campus is excited to virtually welcome John Doyle from the Arts Education Integration Agency to help us celebrate Black History Month on Thursday, February 24. John will be presenting four 45-minute performances to our students - Martin Luther King for Grades 4 and 5, Growing Up for Grade 6, and two separate showings of Founding of SNCC - Radical Youth Leaders for Grades 7 and 8. A huge thank you to the PTCC for helping fund this unique opportunity!
Do you have a current 5th grade student at GLOBE?

Science Week Challenge
Science Week starts this Friday, February 28. This year we invite students to join the Science Week Challenge!
Upload a video of your student doing a science experiment by adding the video to this folder. We will post each submission to the PTCC Facebook page and draw one winner from the Upper Campus and one winner from the Lower Campus. The deadline for challenge submissions is Thursday, March 3 at 5pm. Winners will receive an annual membership to Fernbank museum for the whole family! Full details can be found in last week's newsletter. If you have any questions, please send us an email.
Spirit Night
Minute Meals For Moms is hosting a two night event on February 23 and 24, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, at Upper Campus. Owned by GLOBE parent Whitney Trollinger, Minute Meals for Moms is a meal delivery service specializing in simple, hand crafted dishes.
Black History Month
We’re looking forward to seeing the students in their Pan African colors and Black heritage wear every Friday of the month. With a focus on wellness, check the PTCC Facebook page all month long where we’re sharing wellness tips as well as Black History activities that are happening this month around the metro Atlanta area.
We need you!
PTCC is seeking a co-lead for our communications efforts. This role will give you a chance to liaise between the board of directors and the GLOBE community. If you have two hours a week to spare, good writing skills, and you would like to get involved, we invite you to join ComCoor.
2022 GLOBE Annual Auction
We are now accepting donations for the The GLOBE Academy's PTCC Annual Spring Auction. This year's Auction will be a two-part event beginning with a silent auction (April 29), open and free for all through mobile bidding, and culminating with an in-person indoor/outdoor event (April 30) at Wild Heaven Brewery in Avondale Estates.
The Auction benefits all PTCC activities throughout the year including teacher appreciation, classroom resources, cultural events, International Fest, campus updates, Science Night and more. In order to make this possible, we need donations! Know of someone with a wonderful vacation home? Have a favorite boutique or fitness studio in the area? No donation is too big or small.
We also need volunteers to make the Auction a success. Email auction@theglobeacademy.net to volunteer to serve on the Auction Committee.

Board of Directors
The next board meeting will take place virtually at 7pm on Monday, February 28. All meetings of the Board of Directors are open to the community. To register to attend the meeting virtually, click here. In advance of each meeting, the board will publish the meeting agenda and issue a call for public comments, and after each meeting, minutes and a video link to the meeting will be shared. To view the most recent communication, click here.
GLOBE's governing board comprises volunteers who lead committees focused on Academics, Communication, Development, Diversity, Facilities, Finance, and Strategic Planning; this year, a committee will also convene to renew GLOBE's charter. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact board chair Drew Reynolds.
COVID Corner
Vaccination Clinic
As mentioned earlier in this newsletter, Saturday's vaccination clinic was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who attended.
Weekly COVID-19 testing
Viral Solutions will be back on campus again on Thursday, February 24 to provide all GLOBE students and staff with access to free rapid antigen testing. The positivity rates of each testing clinic can be found on tab 2 of the Data Dashboard. Results will be updated the day after each testing clinic occurs. If you would like to enroll your student in testing for the semester, you can fill out the consent form here. If you have questions about the testing process or how to receive your student's results, please read the FAQ flyer.
Vaccination survey
We would like to determine how many of our students are fully vaccinated. Understanding the vaccination coverage in our community will help us to make informed decisions about sporting events and meal time locations. To learn more and/or to notify us, click here.
Updated quarantine policies
Our mandatory mask mandate, quarantine and isolation policies, and other prevention guidelines are outlined in the latest COVID-19 Health and Safety Playbook (version 2.a).
