DON'T MISS THIS WRITING IN SCIENCE OPPORTUNITY!
Hands on for Middle and High School SCIENCE Teachers (RTTI)
Registration is now open for the fifth round of the Rural Teacher Training Initiative (RTTI), a hands-on professional development for middle and high school science teachers. This program is directly related to today’s biotechnology industry, and will leave participants with skillsets and materials to take back to their classrooms and use with students.
The cost is…FREE! Participants will receive $150 to assist in additional costs, and have the opportunity to earn another $50 for participating in a one-hour, virtual focus group in late Spring.
To qualify to participate teachers must meet the following criteria.
- Teach science in a rural Georgia public school. Grades 7-12 only. Department leads and teacher coaches are welcome to attend/register. Special education teachers who will be pushing into science classes are welcome to register. It’s actually a great opportunity to work and grow together! This is not geared toward elementary level science.
- Commit to attending the Fall series (all four workshops) and the Winter/Spring series (a day and a half).
Fall workshops virtual, hands-on and taught live. They take place October 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th, from 4:15-6:15pm. Participants will be sent all lab materials necessary to participate. Participants only need their computer and internet. The virtual platform is Zoom.
Winter/Spring workshops are in-person for a day and half—a full Friday and half-day Saturday. We will provide all equipment, as well as meals and snacks. We are not able to provide lodging accommodations, but we have chosen a central location—Macon—with the idea that many participants will not need to secure lodging. Winter/Spring workshops will take place on January 26th & 27th, in Macon, at Central Georgia Technical College.
Registration is open! This is a first come, first served situation. Interested parties should REGISTER NOW.

Participants will create, design, collaborate, and problem-solve as they engage in relevant hands-on explorations. Utilizing the 5E Instructional Model, these lessons are essential to any science classroom because they are engaging, affordable, and re-usable. Each lesson emphasizes the Georgia Standards of Excellence while also showing how to make 3D connections in ways that promote student passion for and understanding of STEM endeavors.
Participants will also get an introduction to coding and receive an Edison robot (limit two free robots per school).
