First Grade: Hello from First Grade! Next week, we’ll be working on describing characters in books we’ve already read in class. In math, we’ll be solving word problems to 10. We will be discussing change over time in social studies. The Book It program begins in October. Your child’s teacher will set a reading goal and your child should read each night to ensure they meet the goal. At the end of each month, the students who have met the reading goal will receive. a certificate that they can redeem for a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. Look for more information about Book It coming home soon! As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher. Thanks for all you do!
Second Grade: Greetings from Second Grade! Next week we will continue to analyze how characters respond to major events in stories. We will also be looking closely at character traits. Next week in math students will be learning how to draw and use bar and picture graphs. We will continue our Science unit for Matter. High Frequency Words to Study: name, good, sentence, man, think, say
Resource:
Art: Our awesome little artists were introduced to another artist this week, Wassily Kandinsky (a Russian painter). He was one of the pioneers of abstract modern art. We have discussed Abstract art and looked at several examples. Students were then able to create their own “Kandinsky Circles” by painting colored circles on paper plates. Kindergarten students used different colored crayons for their circles.
Music: Students from Miss Bowen, Mrs. Reason, and Mrs. Toler’s classes had a wonderful performance at Tuesday evening’s PTA program. Thank you, parents and guardians, for bringing them! The students looked so handsome and beautiful in their attire. They demonstrated self-control, carefully watched the director’s silent cues, and sang with pretty voices. Students will be learning rhythm reading skills, songs of friendship, and patriotic songs this week. Students share about family connections in their homerooms. We will continue that subject in music this week, too.
Tiger Reminders
1. Student Early Check-out time ends at 2:15pm. After 2:15 students will be released during dismissal.
2. Parents it is imperative that all of our scholars arrive to school on time each day. Instruction begins daily at 7:55 and when students are late multiple times a week they are missing vital instructional time. Please make sure that your child arrives to school no later than 7:45.Thank you with your help in this matter as we work together o ensure the academic success of all students.
3. Parents it is crucial that you make sure that your child is at school each and everyday. Each day that your child is out of school they are missing important instruction, which can have a negative impact on their academic success. We want to make sure that all of our Tiger Scholars are successful.
Student Services
This week we are learning about paying attention, staying focused and how it's ok to make mistakes. Second Grade students worked on making mistakes. First Grade watched a video and did a worksheet on paying attention. Their work will be displayed outside of Student Services.

ATTENTION PARENTS:
Please help your children, other students, and staff at WPS stay healthy through the school year by helping us educate them about proper handwashing. Hand hygiene is important to help prevent the spread of germs and bacteria that makes everyone sick. Educate your children on the importance of using hand sanitizer and hand washing throughout the day!!
