October Parent Newsletter

It is hard to believe that we are in the Fall of the year. Our scholars have acclimated well to the structures that we have in place at Barack. It is a joy to go into classrooms and see them actively participating in their classroom activities and lessons.

Parents, we need your help! Talk to your scholar each night and ask them what they are doing in each of their classes. They should be able to give you specific details of the strategies they are focusing on in school. We want you to also connect to Class Dojo, email or call your scholars' teachers so we have seamless communication between school and parent. It is important that we work together for the academic success of our scholars.

Please look over the upcoming dates to remember and join us in any or all activities to support our school.

Park Forest-Chicago Heights SD 163 is proud to have the My Pal Bullying Program. This digital program allows our scholars to let the school know when they are being bullied or having other issues. It is our goal for all students to have a wonderful learning experience from beginning to end each day.

We again need your assistance in speaking with your scholar about appropriate behavior expectations on the bus. We have had assemblies to take about bus behavior but we are still getting complaints about the behavior of some of the scholars. If you are available to be a bus monitor, please contact our HR department @ 708-668-9412. We are in the process of talking with our scholars again about their bus behaviors because our bus drivers are complaining about them out of their seats as well as using profanity. The continued disruption could cause accidents on the bus, but it could warrant bus suspensions for some of our scholars. Help us with this! WE need YOU!

October 25th - Education Committee Meeting @ 6 pm

Monthly School Board Meeting @ 7 pm @ Michelle Obama School of Technology and the ARTS

October 28th - Teacher Institute Day - No School

October 29th - Fall Celebrations - @ 2 pm

October 30th - Barack SEL Sneaker Ball - 4th Grade @ 12:30 pm 5th Grade @ 2:30 pm

We will begin our After School Clubs in October. After School club activities will take place Monday, Wednesday or Thursday from 3:00 pm - 4:15 pm. We will have a late bus to transport our scholars that participate in the clubs. Many of our scholars have filled out the applications or let the teachers know of their interest. Please connect with your scholar to see if they have interest and apply by October 6th.

Our buses will drop the students off as close to their regular stops as possible but we need to know what scholars will participate in order to have accurate transportation.
