We have officially entered 4th Quarter and time is zooming ahead. Thanks to all of the families that came to celebrate our Key winners this morning. A few notes of things happening at Berryton:

• Congratulations Mrs. Hurla- Mrs. Hurla defended her doctoral dissertation this last week and is that much closer to obtaining her doctorate. We are so very proud of her!

• 5th Grade to Starbase- Our 5th graders will head to Starbase on Monday for interactive Science. They will head to Starbase 5 times over the next month.

• Camp Invention is Back- Camp Invention will be at BES June 12-16. Click on the video above to learn more about the program or click on the button below to sign up your child.

• Track- Do you have a 5th or 6th grader interested in track? Check out information below for our last round of Intramurals.

• School Supplies for Next Year- Looking to save time and order school supplies for your child next year? Click the links below for more details. We are accepting online orders only.

• Covid Tests- We have received lot of Covid tests that families are welcome to have for no charge. Families are welcome to stop in the office during school hours if interested.

This year the Shawnee Heights Board of Education approved hiring a School Resource Officer specifically for the elementary level and we are excited to welcome Officer Ryan Ladner. We will share Officer Ladner with Tecumseh South Elementary.

Officer Ladner is originally from Topeka and graduated from Onaga. He went on to attend Washburn University where he graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Communications. Officer Ladner has family in law enforcement and this encouraged him to enter the profession.

Officer Ladner served at Washburn Rural High School for 8 years prior to joining the Shawnee Heights staff. He is a Volunteer Firefighter for Soldier Township and is EMT certified. He is blessed to have a wife named Megan and a 3 year old son named Grayson. He looks forward to meeting our Berryton families in the near future.

Berryton's annual Kindergarten Pre-enrollment is scheduled for Tuesday, April 11. Incoming families will sign up for a time to visit the school and meet our kindergarten team. If you have a child that will be attending kindergarten in the fall of 2023, please email Mrs. Tanya Howbert to register your child promptly. She will need to know the following:

• Child's Full Name
• Gender
• Date of Birth
• Guardian/Parent Names
• Physical Address
• Cell Phone Number for all Guardians/Parents
• Email Address for Guardians/Parents

To attend kindergarten your child must be 5 on or before August 31, 2023.

Kindergarten Pre-Enrollment emails will be sent home after Spring Break to all registered incoming kindergartner's families. Please read all information carefully and fill out all links completely. In addition to completing links we will also need the following documents emailed to Mrs. Tanya Howbert prior to April 11:

• Proof of Residency i.e. Utility bill in your name, building and/or purchase agreement, or a rental agreement copy
• Copy of a legal birth certificate (state certified copy)
• Copy of immunization record
• Copy of Custody Papers (if applicable)

By completing all the links and emailing the additional documentation requested it will make Kindergarten pre-enrollment a quicker process.

As an elementary principal I enjoy working collaboratively with staff members to support student learning. I am passionate about continuing to learn professionally, and building relationships with staff and students at Berryton Elementary. When I'm not serving at Berryton Elementary I am usually with my husband and two sons. We can be found at sporting events, cheering on Kansas State University, or just enjoying a movie at home.
