Welcome to the 2023-24 school year! We are well on our way as the calendar turns from August to September. This year at Gertie Belle Rogers we will be carrying on one initiative and beginning a new one that is district wide.

First, we will continue as a school with the rules of The Energy Bus for Kids. Over the summer we added two new murals on our walls reflecting these ideas. Attached below is both a letter about the Energy Bus, as well as a summary of the text of the book. In September we will be focusing on Creating a Positive Vision, which is rule number one of The Energy Bus for Kids. Please talk to your learners at home about what that means, and help them construct positive visions daily. This means thinking about what success might look like in any situation, and then making choices to reflect that idea of success.

Second, we will be learning about the book The Coffee Bean. There is a summary of this text below as well. The Coffee Bean differs from The Energy Bus because it is a mindset, and not rules. Please talk to your learners about how to be a "coffee bean" and "change the water" around them to reflect a more positive atmosphere.

We look forward to spreading these messages of positivity at school, and look forward to stories from learners extending these ideas beyond the walls of Gertie Belle Rogers.

Below is the schedule for recess/lunches for the 2023-2024 school year.

Grades 4-5, 2-3, and K-1 go to recess before lunch.

*4th-5th grades = 11:05am to 11:45am

*2nd-3rd grades = 11:30am to 12:10pm

*Kindergarten-1st grade = 12:15pm to 1:00pm

2/3 and 3/4 Multiage, and PLC go to lunch before recess.

*Multiage and PLC = 12:15pm to 12:55pm

Parents, just a friendly reminder to please call the office on the days that your student

will not be in school OR if your child will be leaving early for an appointment, etc.

We highly encourage you to have a doctor's note faxed to the school office or have your child bring into the office upon return of any type of an appointment. The student's absence for that day will be exempted when a doctors note is received.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office.

Gertie Belle Rogers teachers will be scheduling Parent/Teacher conferences soon. Conferences will be held on Thursday, September 21st from 3:30 pm - 9:00 pm. Please watch for an email from your child's teacher a week or two prior to the conference date. You will then be able to schedule your conference time using our Sign Up Genius.

If you do not receive an email from your child's teacher, please call the school office so we can have the teacher contact you to schedule a time.

5th Grade Band sign up night is Tuesday, September 5, 2023. It will be held at the Mitchell High School Performing Arts Center at 6:00pm.

The Mitchell Area Children's Choir would love to have new friends join! Rehearsals begin Thursday, September 14th, and will take place in the music room at LB Williams Elementary.

3rd-8th grade rehearses from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

If your child will be leaving early for an appointment, please call the office ahead of time to let us know. When you arrive, we will assist with pick up by sending your child out the front door. If you are returning your child to school after the appointment, please ring the bell at the front door to inform the secretaries your child is here. Please ask your physician to provide a doctor's note to the school for the medical absence.
