Please note that the Family Newsletter will continue being sent each Friday, throughout the summer, as applicable. However, only emails aligned to students enrolled for the 2021-2022 school year will receive the newsletter beginning July 9. As always, family communications are archived on the Hyde-Addison ES website.

As a school community, we would like to extend a heartfelt note of thanks to Ms. Bailey and wish her well as she enters retirement.

We are so proud of our 5th graders for their hard work and perseverance. We know they will continue to exhibit our core values as they enter middle school and beyond. They will be leaders in their next school community, their local community, and the global community. We will miss them and look forward to them coming back to visit and volunteer as alumni!

DCPS has released a draft of our Continuous Education Plan (CEP) and is seeking public comment through June 25, 2021. This document is required by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) for the 2021-22 school year. It provides a detailed explanation of DCPS' plans to provide both a full day of in-person instruction for all students five days a week and to offer virtual learning for those medically eligible. Additionally, our CEP provides the public and OSSE with information supporting a safe reopening, student and staff well-being, and accelerated Learning. Parents/ guardians have nominated LSAT representatives and now it is time to vote! Voting will be open between June 15-June 29. Community members and student representatives are asked to join by consensus once the other LSAT members are determined. Nominations and elections for the teachers and non-instructional staff members are handled by the union representatives.

We expect the overwhelming majority of our students to return to full-time in-person learning in the fall! For SY21-22, here’s what families can expect at school to maintain a safe environment for in-person learning:

• HVAC enhancements allow for well-ventilated spaces at every school, including state-of-the-art HEPA filters in classrooms and air quality sensors throughout the building.
• Practice safe routines: All staff, students, and visitors must wear a mask or face covering, and daily PPE and hygiene supplies will be provided.​
• Enhanced cleaning protocols for high-touch surfaces, and a deep cleaning completed after a suspected or reported COVID-19 case.​

• Space arrangements: Students should be separated as far as possible, and individual desks and tables are to be facing the same direction to the extent feasible.
• Student meals: Pre-K and Kindergarten students will eat in the classroom and all other grades will eat in the cafeteria. Social distancing should be followed while eating and drinking, to the extent feasible.
• Student cohort interactions will be limited to the extent feasible, but there will be no cap for student or staff cohort interactions in any grade.​
• Screen for illness: Students and staff will complete a daily “Ask, Ask, Look” screening, but temperatures will not be taken upon arrival at school.
• COVID-19 reporting protocols: Schools will report positive cases within a school community if a person has been in the building during their infectious period and follow a quarantine protocol. ​Additional information about asymptomatic testing will be shared over the summer.

June 24: Last day of school for students

June 28-30: Return your materials (laptops, chargers, cases, hotspots, ipads, magnet tile boards for kindergarten and first grade)
