Hickam Falcons on the Move!
Our Second Grade students had a wonderful time participating in our first field trip of the year! Students watched a play at the Honolulu Theater For Youth last week that helped them learn to use their inner strength to accomplish hard things. Hickam is so excited to offer these real world learning opportunities for our students.
Principal Letter
We hope you had a wonderful first month of the school year. It's so refreshing to see our Hickam's students smiling faces across campus. Our students and teachers have been amazing so far this school year. I must commend the tireless work ethic of our students, faculty, and staff. I also appreciate the teachers using this first month to intentionally develop relationships with our students. One of many reasons why I am proud to be the Principal here.
As we transition into September, I want to highlight two events. First is our SCC meeting on Monday, September 18th. from 1-2 in the L&L, connected to our Aloha Transition Center. In addition, I hope to see our Pre-K and 1st grade parents at our coffee hour on Wednesday, September 20th, also in the L&L, from 8-9 a.m. Otherwise, we hope you have a restful Labor Day weekend. Take care!

Vice Principal's Letter
Aloha Hickam Ohana! We have had an awesome beginning to our new school year! Our students and staff have been greeting each other with smiles and warm welcomes. In addition, our routines, schedules and procedures are being implemented with great success. Students are navigating campus well! I consider myself very fortunate to work with so many dedicated, innovative and caring staff members, students and parents. Each day continues to be filled with new experiences, learning for all, and the ability to brighten someone's day. I am very much looking forward to September and all of our activities! Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly with any questions or concerns. Let's go Falcons!
Kindly,
Ms. Jones

Change for Maui - GT Students Penny War Fundraiser
The GT students have been learning new skills while working on a donation drive to benefit Maui. They are donating the money to the Hawaii Public Schools Foundation.
The Penny Wars Jars will be located in the L&L and labeled by grade level. If you can support our students efforts in helping others who have been affected by the wildfires in Maui that would be greatly appreciated. This fundraiser will run from Monday, August 28 to Sept 8.

Hickam Elementary is a Nut and Tree Nut free Campus
We ask for your assistance in checking your child (ren) lunch especially items like lunchables (i.e. Reeses Peanut Butter Cup) and fast-food items (i.e. Chick-Fil-A) as they may contain items that are in violation of the school’s nut free policy.
As a proud and completely nut-free school, we adhere to the following policy:
• No nuts or nut products are allowed in any class-shared snack.
• If you are providing snacks for your child's classroom, please send only commercially prepared, nut-free snacks.
• Individual students may not bring any items listed as containing or may contain peanut or tree nuts in their lunches. This includes spreads such as Almond Butter. Children having an allergic reaction will go to the health room. They will also be monitored during and after lunch to ensure that they wash their hands thoroughly. As an additional precaution, we wash all tables carefully before students return to class.
• Students who bring a lunch that contains peanuts or tree nuts will be provided a school lunch at their own cost.
Aloha Transition Center (PCNC) Updates
The Parent-Community Networking Centers (PCNCs) serve to create supportive partnerships among the home, the school, and the community for the purposes of supporting student success, and building a sense of family and community.
Anchored4Life Tip and Quote of the Month!
"Since there is nothing so well worth having as friends, never lose a chance to make them."
— Francesco Guicciardini
Tip: Did you know the Library on Base has a Facebook group? There is also a non-profit organization that holds monthly used book sales to support literacy programs at the Library called, Hickam Library Friends. These are great places for your student to practice their literacy skills!
Regal Bread orders due this Friday September 1st.
- Please make sure the order envelope is filled out fully. Checks should be made out to Hickam Elementary School PTO. If you have more than one child you are placing an order for, you can make out one check and just put a note with the check stating the students names and their classrooms the check is covering.
- Parents will need to pick up the students' entire order on Thursday, September 14 from 2:30-5:30 in the ATC. This is the only day for order pick up, so please make arrangements to get your order then.
Ice Pop Wednesday
PTO will be selling ice pops in 3 locations on campus to students directly after school for $0.25 each.
Membership
If you would like to join our PTO, please email pto@hickamfalcons.k12.hi.us. Membership forms will be sent home soon.
Choose Love - Social Emotional Learning Unit
Hickam Elementary School's Social Emotional Learning program is called Choose Love. This quarter we are focusing on Courage. "Courage is the willingness and ability to work through obstacles despite feeling embarrassment, fear, reluctance, or uncertainty." -Choose Love Movement
Morning Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
- With limited parking in the freedom tower parking lot, we ask that families reserve parking for teachers and staff. We ask that parents, when able park along 8th and 9th street for pick up and drop off. When others are parked in the lot, that can make it difficult for teachers to find parking elsewhere and get to their classrooms on time.
We ask for your assistance for not dropping off students on Julian Way where the Child Development Center is located and Radio Road on Julian Avenue due to the immense amount of foot and bike traffic in these areas..
Do not park in the drop area located on Manzelman Circle.
Employment Opportunities
We are still looking to hire part-time positions:
