Maria Mitchell was born in Augest 1st,1818,in Nantucket,Massachusetts.Maria was born one of nine children. Marias father ,recognizing her intrest in the heavens at an early age,encourage her intrestin astromony.

One night in 1847,Maria Mitchell discovered the first telescope comet.Maria was the first person in america to see a telescope comet.

Maria Mitchell died in 1889.In 1905 Maria was elected to Hall of Fame for Great Americans.She is known as the 1st professional woman astronomer in the United states.She was also the first female astronomy professor.

Maria Mitchell was the first woman elected in the academy of Arts and sciences 1848.Maria was hierd in the Astrnomy department at Vessar Collage in 1865.
