Alpha Delta Kappa's Founder's Day celebration was held virtually on Saturday, October 24. Sisters from around the state gathered on Zoom to remember and celebrate our founders, Agnes Shipman Robertson, Marie Neal, Marion Southall, and Hattie Poppino.

Louisiana Eta is celebrating its 65th birthday this year.

We received a sweet card (pictured below) from Leslie, our state president-elect.

The virtual walk took place on September 26th.

At every meeting, each sister is expected to wear her Alpha Delta Kappa badge. If you forget to wear it, you should donate at least $1.00 to the "pot", which will be donated to the food bank in addition to donations from members that will be collected in November and March.

Because we will not be able to have our annual auction to raise funds for our altruistic projects, we need to find other ways. If you have any ideas, please let our officers know!

This year we will once again award sisters for various levels of participation. Sisters earn "violets" as they complete the activities listed below. The sister with the most violets at the end of the year will receive a prize from the Violet Store. The prize will be a magnetic badge unless she already has one in which case another Violet Store prize will be awarded. The current totals earned this year are in the link below the activities.

Activities:

-one violet awarded for responding to the rsvp for each meeting

-one violet awarded for each meeting you wear the badge to

-one violet awarded for wearing pearls or ADK colors to a meeting/event

-one violet awarded for posting on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter (send screen shot to Stacey)

-one violet awarded for posting on state Facebook page (send screen shot to Stacey)

-five violets awarded for attendance at each meeting

-five violets awarded for doing something for ADK month in Oct. (treats to a school, etc.)

-five violets awarded for submitting an ADK grant

-five violets awarded for winning an ADK grant

-five violets awarded for hosting a meeting

-five violets awarded for doing an extracurricular activity at school/community outreach (retired members)

-five violets for winning a school, district, or state Award

-ten violets awarded for each prospective member brought to a meeting (Only those eligible to join will count for points.)

-other violet worthy activities may be added as the occasions arise

Some suggestions submitted for meeting ideas include an outdoor meeting at Jeanie's, a heart health awareness meeting in Feb., something to support small businesses, yoga, craft, healthy week night meal ideas with a chef or dietitian, Lions Club speaker, and improving personal appearance on a budget. We will discuss these great ideas during our planning meeting. If you can arrange one of these or have a lead on someone that could be a guest presenter, let Stacey know.

Meetings for December-May will be set up at a later date as the climate of the COVID-19 pandemic changes.

December- Dues are due to Val via check, mailed to her home (see member list for address) or PayPal. Dues for 2020-2021 are $65. New members no longer need to have two or more years of experience in order to be inducted. Teachers who have graduated and met the requirements for certification and are under contract with a school are now eligible to join. Also retired teachers are now eligible for membership.
