Future Ready Lancaster Lessons Snapshot

1st Grade
Students will be able to identify their interest and skills
Extending the Learning at Home: Talk with your student about your interests, hobbies, and skills. Explain how these connect with your job.
1st Grade
Students will learn the importance of not giving up.
Extending the Learning at Home: Watch this short video. Talk with your student about how to persist and persevere at school.
2nd Grade
Students with learn what causes specific emotions and how to control them.
Extending the Learning at Home: Ask your student to explain the lesson to you and share some emotions that are difficult to manage.
3rd Grade
Students will be able to improve their conversational skills.
Extending the Learning at Home: Practice conversation skills with your student.
4th Grade
Students will be able to explain three steps they need to take to get to college.
Extending the Learning at Home: Discuss the following questions with your student:
1. Why do you think it will be important for your student to attend college or postsecondary education beyond high school?
2. What are some good academic skills that I have or should work on before going to college?
3. Finally, students should tell a parent/guardian or sibling at home about the virtual tour that they took of a college campus and what they liked about it.
5th Grade
Students will learnt the importance of studying every subject and how it relates to the world.
Extending the Learning at Home: Ask your student to explain the lesson to you and why each of their subjects is important to future success.

The demand for computer network support specialists is expected to grow by 5.3% by 2024 in Lancaster County. This career requires an Associates degree with an entry salary of $42,250 and a median salary of $54,680 in Lancaster County.
Local Postsecondary Training Option
Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology offers an associates degree program in computer networking. A larger percentage of SDoL students take advantage of the Stevens Grant and pay little to no tuition to attend.
