Food for Thought... DATA
Too often as educators we are quick to say, "well that was a low cohort," or "they didn't perform that way in the classroom." When looking at historical data and trend data, we have to own part of the data. As an educator, we have to be able to self-reflect and say, "what could I have done differently to impact these scores?" "What did I do well that was reflected in these scores?" "What did I work really hard at, that did not seem to impact these scores?" As an educator who completes more than one instructional year, even if you changed grade levels, you tend to do some of the same things and some things differently. That needs to be intentional and data driven. We will start with doing an autopsy on the data and how instruction may have impacted it positively or negatively.
Following our 10,000 ft view, we will be putting more of a microscope into student level data the week of 9/16.
Here is an article "3 ways Student Data and Inform Your Teaching" for our "Food for Thought." I love the part about looking for contradictions. When I get to know the students, this is one of the first things I do... I will start to identify "Underachievers" on FSA to personally coach. For example, whose other data and classroom work does not match their FSA scores? What can I do to help build a relationship with them to help motivate them to show what they know?

Sometimes we are data rich and information poor... our goal is not quantity of data, but to find what data can best be turned into information that informs our work with students.
