Dear students, staff, and parents/guardians:

This Monday, October 9th, is Columbus Day (a.k.a. Indigenous Peoples’ Day) and there is no school.

On Wednesday, October 11th, we are administering the PSAT’s to all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors during the school day. This is not a numbered day. There are no scheduled classes and all underclassmen need to be at school by 7:25 a.m. (Thursday, October 12th is Day 3). After the PSAT’s have concluded, these underclassmen will be participating in a number of different assemblies/workshops - Study Skills, iDecide (substance abuse), and ‘Until Help Arrives’ (MEMA). The schedule for the day can be found here.

Seniors are encouraged to use this day to ‘catch up’. Some are planning to work on their college essays or their college applications. Others are going on college visits. Some are going to spend the day catching up on work they need to do for their current classes. There are also seniors who have indicated they need help with their college applications and/or essays, and we are prepared to help them that day. Seniors are also welcome to work independently here at the school. Seniors who are working outside of the school that day are eligible to participate in sports/clubs that afternoon.

All students in grades 9-11 will be participating in PSAT testing on Wednesday, October 11th. Students in grade 9 will be taking the PSAT 8/9, while students in grade 10 & 11 will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT.

Students should bring with them on testing day:

• Their school issued chromebook fully charged
• Calculator (a calculator is provided in the digital exam)
• Pencils

Dear WHS Families,

On behalf of the WHS Parent Advisory Council, we would like to welcome all new and returning families to the WHS community. We are looking forward to another great year! Please join us for our first meeting – Wednesday, October 25th at 7:00pm in the Media Center.

We hope many of you will take advantage of the opportunity to meet other parents/guardians and to hear directly from Principal Imbusch, who will provide a back-to-school update. We will also be joined by the new Assistant Principal, Dr. Kristina Kelleher-Bianchi.

What we do and how we do it:
To welcome back WHS staff this year, our PAC sponsored a visit from Palagis Ice Cream Truck, bringing some fun and frosty treats. During the year, we will restock the staff room periodically with coffee pods and snacks. In May, we plan a Staff Appreciation luncheon during Teacher Appreciation Week.

WHS PAC does not participate in traditional fundraising efforts, so we rely on our WHS families for direct support. Direct donations are appreciated at any time!

Walpole Public Schools invites families of multilingual learners to attend MLPAC to discuss opportunities for the educational success of students who are currently or were formerly in the English Language Education (ELE) program. It is also a time to network with other families as we continue to build collaborative partnerships.

Our next deadline for the senior pages is a baby picture. This is due October 20th.

The baby picture should be jpg, jpeg, or png files and should be titled lastname_firstname.

There are 3 ways to submit pictures (senior, baby, candids) to the Yearbook:

1. Submit to the Yearbook Classroom - Baby Pictures assignment.

The Photography Club will meet Thursday October 12, 2023 after school. The theme is sunsets. Hopefully the rain will stay away and sun will stay out long enough to see some beautiful sunsets to get a picture. Do you want to meet new people? Do you like to act or want to brush up on your theatrical skills? Well, you’re in luck. The Speech and Debate Team is hosting auditions for their multiple, Mean Girls. Auditions will be held on Thursday October 12th from 2:10-3 in Mrs. Murray’s room - 2124. We can’t wait to see you there!

We will meet on Tuesday October 10th after school in room 2208. Remember to bring in permission slips allowing you to participate in various activities throughout the year, and to pay the one time extracurricular fee of $60 Check payable to "Town of Walpole" for involvement in all clubs.

The WHS UNICEF Club will be hosting a Trunk or Treat Fundraiser in the parking lot of Walpole High School on Saturday, October 21st from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM (flyer attached). Come bring your little ones to this event that's sure to be a great time. There is a recommended donation of $5 per trick-or-treater.

Students: Interested in joining a club that works with the UNICEF organization to help provide impoverished children and families with necessities like proper nutrition and education? We have partnered with the Massachusetts Work Based Learning Alliance to provide opportunities for our students to engage in virtual internships or industry project experiences. A few WHS students took advantage of an opportunity through IBM this summer, and we are looking to open this up to additional students.

The Fall season is off to a great start. Post season is just around the corner and the student athletes would appreciate any support that you can give by attending a game. Yearbook team pictures for varsity will be on October 11th at 1:45PM in the gym. Only varsity teams should attend.
