A Message from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar parents,
We hope everyone was able to stay warm over the past week in the cold weather. We are super happy to see the kids back at school this week! This year is flying by and the 3rd quarter is coming to a close next week. Please be sure to have your students check grades in skyward and staying on top of work turned in this week and next so teachers can update grades.
Friday, March 5 will be a half day and students will be released at 12:35. Buses will run on the early schedule. We will not make any adjustments to the daily bell schedule and students will only attend periods 1-5 that day. A and B lunches will be served at school. C lunch will be served at 12:15 with the option for students to take their lunch with them if needed.
To begin planning for our STAAR online testing, we will start collecting devices from our in-person learners only beginning after Spring Break, March 15. Our goal in collecting these devices is to make sure we have the devices on campus and in working condition to be able to use them for STAAR testing beginning in April. Please be sure your child brings the device and the charger to turn in.
Also, our Coffee with the Counselors to answer any course registration questions has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 25 from 8:30-10am.

Tracks Class Update
7th Grade
The 7th grade Tracks classes finished January by looking at the endorsements in high school, and making a post high school road map. In February, we are focusing on communication skills. The areas of focus are:
- public speaking
- taking a stance and being able to defend that stance
- body language
- conflict resolution
- interview skills
We started the unit with students doing Black History month presentations, and we will end the unit with interview skills.
8th Grade
The 8th Grade Tracks classes have been continuing their focus on post-secondary opportunities. Students have been exploring 4-year Universities, advanced degree options, 2-year Colleges and Associate degrees. They have also been introduced to Trade School programs and military options. As our focus on "Post-Secondary" life continues we will be introducing the students to: Resume Writing and Interview Skills.
We will finish the 9 weeks with the students creating their own "Work Ethic" pledges based on Mike Rowe's "S.W.E.A.T. Pledge."
Coming Up Next 9 weeks: Life in the Real World!
- Communication Styles
- Budgeting
- Investing
- Nutrition
