Early Childhood Education Spotlight
The Battle Lake Early Childhood program provides an environment for children birth through 5 years which is safe, friendly and nurturing. The program encourages the development of the “whole” child and values each of the five developmental domains: cognitive, social or emotional, adaptive, physical and communication. Each child is viewed as an individual therefore allowing each to grow and develop at one’s own pace. The program emphasizes learning through play, realizing the importance of discovery, creativity and exploration.
We spoke with both Julie Frost and Jenny Mansker and asked what they liked most about teaching Early Childhood Education. Ms. Julie expressed that she loves to see the personalities of each child. "Everyday is a new day and you never know what to expect. You have your lesson plans and everything is ready but the kids take learning to where you go with it. The children love learning, are very excited to be at school and like to try new things." Ms. Jenny likes that it's their first year of school. "When they come in, it's their first experience and I get to be part of that; to encourage them as they are learning and exploring a whole new environment. I get to witness the discoveries they make, new friendships made and watch them challenge themselves and grow."

Center Time for Early Childhood & Kindergarten
Centers are independent learning opportunities. Some of the center choices are free-play and others have activities which align with our learning objectives. Children are given the opportunity to role play and be engaged in hands-on activities as they explore and experiment with important concepts. Center activities include legos, painting, dramatic play, sand table, blocks, writing center, treasure chest and play-doh. Other activities are added throughout the year.
Children grow socially as they navigate interactions with peers. They must work and play together, as well as be respectful and allow personal space, if needed. Center play also is independently directed so the teacher is free to teach small groups of students reading and math concepts.
Club Spotlight - Doodle Troop
Brand new to Battle Lake High School is a club called the Doodle Troop. Meetings will begin Thursday, November 14th from 3:30 - 5:00 pm in Mr. McIntire’s room. They will take place every second and fourth Thursday of the month.
The Doodle Troop is a casual drawing club for both new and experienced artists to come and further develop their skills! Each week, we will explore and work on a different aspect of drawing. Skill doesn't matter, everyone starts somewhere. If you want to learn to draw but don’t know where to start, this is a great opportunity! The space and atmosphere will be friendly, positive and calm. Feel free to bring snacks, music and friends! Week-to-week attendance isn’t mandatory. Remember to bring an empty notebook to use only for the club.
